1980s (partly!) Yamaha goodness. I bought it as a mostly complete 400 that did not really run. Spent about 15 years on the track. It now has a much happier yzf600 engine planted inside. Tossed racetek springs in the forks to correct a boaty front end. built a harness specifically for the machine. The only original parts to the bike are the plastics, gauges, wheels and frame. The tail is from a 04' Gsxr. The original was kinda crumbly and the rear lights just did not work to my favor. When I bought it: For when I cant carry a ton of stuff on the back of the bike on road trips I carry it on the rover with all the other junk. Those rigs work but are very flexy bendy. another photo in a rural part of Alabama. http://i.imgur.com/Pw1DF.jpg

its a 90' model. Had its rear end raced off by some chick. Goodies: More race wire than an aircraft new fox twin clicker and forks overhauled 4 sets of tires quick release fairings Roomie/bf/spouse/bitch/etc wanted a fzr400 after playing with my 400.. I found that one in west los angeles for a thousand. I'll have some more photos once I get my loving pc re-imaged. I may just go ahead and start a build thread for the both of our bikes...lots of stuff planned within the next few weeks. Mine is a 88, My Best friend in Atlanta just bought a 89 model, and now we have a 90 in the mix. all with different engines too.

Its still somewhat of a FZR. less so now, but still a Fzr. I've spent the past month or two going through it. (again) I might be bringing home a YSR in the opposite paint scheme in a few days. cursedshitbox fucked around with this message at 03:41 on Apr 4, 2013 |

My ancient 80s Fzr400 frankenbike. Last year logged over 11,000. this year: The only original 400 parts is the frame and two wheels.

Liter gsxr forks, ducati rotors, axle the spouse and I made on a lathe. switchgear is from an R6, yokes and clipons are gsxr1000. yzf600r engine, carb parts from various fzr/R6/Yzf motorcycles. rear swinger is left alone other than a fox twinclicker. I went to the gsxr exhaust, the d&d it came with was falling apart from age. I retained the d&d race headers though. underwent a full rewire because it came to me as a hacked to hell track bike. Seat I made out of abs sheet. bodywork is just replacement glasswork. tail light is from an R1. Its fun. its crotchety as gently caress. but its fun. theres another 400 on the lift behind it. its going to be stock-ish. Its undergoing a engine rebuild currently.

I like this idea. I'm just running a puke tube for a overflow. The fzr600 bolts in, its a little taller, radiator needs to be modified. Yzf600s take a lotta fuckery to make em work. you've gotta shim the sproket or split the cases and replace the output on the trans. E: carbs normally have a ram air setup like the R6 does. I cheated and it kinda works but really doesnt. It needs EFI honestly. I was running modified fzr600 forks prior to the gsxr stuff. I got a killer deal on the new forks, and sold the old parts for what I paid for the new, so it was essentially a free upgrade. cursedshitbox fucked around with this message at 07:29 on Dec 24, 2013 |

I said I wouldn't touch the main frame as its cherry. there is a few guys trying to stuff 750 and liter engines into the 600 frame. my next issue to climb over is that the 150/60zr18 isn't made by bridgestone anymore. Its either run chinese tires or convert the rear. Two things I don't want to do.

I started a project thread in here ehhh almost a year ago, it didn't catch much interest so I bailed out. Rode it 220 miles to bigbear today. Forgot how much fun it was, my last ride was before a major car accident in September. It also handles pretty well on icy roads.

Its basically a dirtbike with different wheels. Gearing? eh, I've only had it around the block, seems fine to me. The best part. I can put em on the 450 and take it to the track. Two bikes and I can play legos with about 1/3 of the parts.

This thing can righteously kiss my rear end. 8 miles on the rebuild, locked again. jetting was correct and it didn't run hot this time.

Sagebrush posted:name + post combo The CSB was scrapped a week ago! 2 stroke, what oil galley! hahahaha. First go round: Incorrect jetting/overheating. this go round: apparently 32:1 is too much oil. what I've been told I should have been running 40-50:1 on this particular engine. Meh, lesson learned, put the wheels on a WR. Rebuild was my work, meticulously cleaned. This is the -first- engine to blow up so soon of the breakin period, and I've built some serious go fast engines. Plug looks like proper burn too.

I'll part it and get something else. Not worried at all. bought it off a buddy with unknown history. I am very tempted to get a WR400/426 and plate it, then swap the wheels over. the Eline on that thing will fetch good coin too.

Pistons burnt too. I'm stupid. Most forums are saying run em 40-60:1 premix on synthetics with the jetting I'm running. way too much oil for the jetting. way lean a/f ratio: blown rear end engine. whatever, I'm a veteran 4 stroke builder learning 2 strokes the hardway.

Wow is this thing hosed. My buddies DRZ was also having running problems that day, but being what it is, it didnt care. I was also running whatever brand dino premix from the parts store, which likely wasn't helping the cause. the KX85 seems to not care, but it spends more time on its side than running.

Its what was in the tank the first time it blew up. heh. E: any rate, it'll need bearings this go round and it'll get replacement seals at the same time. First time I cracked it the bearings/seals were all new anyhow so I left em alone.

Guess I'll be looking into CHT sensors vs the coolant temp sensor I was running. A lean A/F ratio would cause the mass knocking thats apparent (again), even though it is correctly set for altitude and temperature according to pro-circuit.
