This thread makes waiting for Ikea to come to my city so painful (Winnipeg, a year or two to go).

I'm making a similar switch soon, going from Z5500's to M-Audio AV-40 based off Factory Factory's reccomendations, cannot wait to hear the difference. Will be posting pics next week of the new desktop soon. Just got my Dell 24" ultrasharp in today, upgraded from 20" 2005FPW.

Those speakers really dwarf everything, try moving them more to the side and center the monitors more?

Here is my little setup -- putting up a new picture on the right side to fill the empty space. Grabbing the frame tonight for this! Guy online did 25 prints of this and has a lot of the other Ninja Turtles characters up soon (altho the prints are sold out he has the images on there). He's finishing up with the four turtles with Leo and Donny done now. http://daverapoza.blogspot.com/

I really want that NZXT CPU cooler - I love how it looks in person. I may get one this weekend for shits and giggles. Was also thinking of moving my PC from my Corsair 400C to the NZXT H400 since it has better cable management but at the time I was on a Corsair kick. to

I want to move away from my Ikea Galant as it is just so cumbersome and want more of the butcher block look. I should look for the "thick veneer" ones there, eh? Or just anywhere else that sells like Home Depot? Jumping on the trend of butcher blocks on ikea cabinets but all the Karlby and Alex things are sold the gently caress out. Alex apparently not getting a restock till April now I read. So instead i've ordered something similar: The Micke which is same height but a few inches less in depth: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/micke-drawer-unit-drop-file-storage-white-50213080/ And instead of the wheels I'll use the Eket feet for the bottom: https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/eket-foot-adjustable-metal-70340044/ A local hardware place has a nice solid block of Acacia wood in dark expresso stain for only $15 more than Ikea's so I figure that's better than veneer over MDF. (no pics yet till we move in) Vintersorg fucked around with this message at 00:45 on Feb 25, 2021 |

I am using the carts as legs actually. The "new thing" with desktops this year was people doing this. Karlby's and Alex's sell out QUICK. This is the Karlby butcher block with Alex drawers. This is with a butcher block and micke drawers. The guy I spoke with used these from Home Depot: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbil...-306229574-_-N& Vintersorg fucked around with this message at 01:01 on Feb 25, 2021 |

I think we'd all like a mini-keg fridge beside our desks. This was my old desk at my apartment, ikea Galant - they don’t make these anymore and it’s been redone as Bekant now. The desk takes up way too much room tho. So gonna be happier with just a board. I've also moved to just a single ultrawide and maybe down the road I might get a secondary monitor to put above. I saw someone with a 50" and that'd be cool if I hooked up a console. Vintersorg fucked around with this message at 15:29 on Feb 25, 2021 |

That one looks really cool too! I like the cup holders, haha. It's completely sold out here in Canada too - can't even add to cart. Wonder if it got discontinued.

Woot, Ikea got some stock in of the oak veneer butcher blocks and it was $50 cheaper than their walnut and $60 cheaper than solid acacia - since it's just for a computer desk that will be worth it! The MDF board this uses as it's core is pretty strong - up to 1,200 lbs of pressure. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jESD2-lv-M Solid wood is 2000+ as this video shows but... im not that fat.

Work in progress at my new house. The Ikea Mosslanda shelf kinda slopes a bit but should be ok with flat stuff. A shame because while upside down they have it displayed like that in their showroom. I wanted a white Lack but they were sold out for now. I’ll probably upgrade down the road to that.

Minor update - got some decorations up now. Thinking about getting some acoustic tiles for the back since there's some echo in the room. A good rug will tie the room together as well. Future plans also include finally building a 60% mech keyboard and getting more of my prints up around the place. Some more lighting too - need a good desk lamp as that little moon doesn't work well.

Coredump posted:How do you feel about split ergo keyboards? Too weird for my tastes. I could barely handle the Microsoft ones people used for a while (and still do!). Anything TKL will be cool though - i've been debating if 60% is too much to jump into and to try 84% first as it still has arrows and the page down stuff. I got some time though - I ordered a keyset off a Canadian KB site (DeskHero) so waiting on those to come in. Might buy the PCB soon and some switches (thinking either box jades or whites).

The networking cable run ways are really good for this too as you can bend some of the sides down for bigger cables if you got em. I got these https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07FFN2HN6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (the black ones are overpriced right now - should be $36) and they work wonderfully. They have screws AND really strong double sided tape. I messed up positioning one cause I forgot to account for my monitor arm and it ripped the bottom of the Ikea Karlby paper cover off.

Slowly getting to ideal. Thinking about upgrading the M-Audios with some Yuzus in white. And also get a new white arm that can hold the UW.

I would love to have real plants but mine are all plastic. My youngest cat is drawn to them like moth to flame - no matter what. She normally never jumps on counters but we learned if we bring a plant home she's up there trying to munch it. Great workspace!! I used to have that monitor - it's solid!
