50" Android TV, boots into a webpage as the screensaver. Webpage has linked widgets to various services, so it pulls my work calendar, task lists, NY Times Headlines, weather, etc, during business hours when I am in my home office. When it is time for my husband to come home from work it displays his travel time home. After work hours it just displays NY Times headlines. weather and several smaller photo frames with family photos, then after bedtime it shows a dim giant satellite photo as kind of nighttime ambiance.

I can open the one above the screens just fine too? Also it's our home office, nobody but my husband, an AT&T employee or myself have been in that room in years, we don't have trash bins and shredders hanging out in our living room.

It is very odd and I've never figured it out. IKEA has the worst shipping options of any major retailer I've seen in memory, and they've never changed it. In These Times, that seems like a mega fuckton of cash left on the table, by not using traditional UPS/FedEx/whatever and an online system to match. Perhaps there is some reason I am not understanding.

On one hand, delivery logistics are extremely difficult and expensive on large items that have a high chance of being damaged in transit, or really at any point from production to end delivery.

On the other hand, where are you going to get an Utespelare?

Big one or little one? The little one is an Ambient Weather console for our weather station:

Big one is an Android TV running Dakboard, it integrates into a lot of my other stuff for things other than weather (News, Calendar, Traffic, Spotify), it's just shown in not doing anything mode which is just clock, weather and the NYT RSS newsfeed pulling background images from some image feed.

It's actually all super functional, JBL Link Show is just a Google Home with Display device with nice speakers, so, whole house audio, home control, view security cameras, if weather is bad or something I can throw a Hulu live TV stream for through Google Cast. 3rd display is especially helpful when I WFH, I can just throw teams our outlook on it as an a side display, outside of work, iMessage. Ambient Weather, it's just a weather station display/WiFi link for the weather station. Just shows time, windspeed, UV, rain events, super basic.

Phone is just a cheap Polycom connected to VOIP, it's literally like $4 a month total for three voice lines and a fax line.

Wall display, it's 4k, auto dims, background pulls high resolution photos. 55" might be a might be stretching it size wise, but honestly, most people don't even realize it is even a display until the background changes and they are just like "Oh poo poo!"

It was really started as a WFH thing, displayed my meetings, lists, etc on an easy to display board. It grew on me, I swear in person with the room lights on you would think it was just a giant photo, not even backlit, I've thought about having an actual frame made for it.

I don't know how many of you have seen Samsung The Frame TVs, but with proper color settings and brightness, a modern, even cheap-ish 4K tv in the right conditions and the right content doesn't even look like a display these days unless you see something moving on it.

Left to right:

Lenovo Mini PC running Dakboard, morning traffic schedule, weather, etc, also has a Chromecast with Google TV for Hulu Live TV, YouTube, whatever. Lenovo 10" Google Display, music, photos, etc. Finally Panasonic ToughPad that lives in a dock, Full Windows 10, IP65 rating, never done it but you could technically, rinse it off in the sink from kitchen messes. Also super bright to bring out to the backyard.

It's perfectly clean, in fact, all of the house is spotless, what and how are you cooking that you think the TV would get dirty? It's a range, not a wok station.

I did it because there was nowhere else to put it in our circa 1940s kitchen until we do some renovation and like many people, I like to watch TV in the kitchen when I am cooking, which I do several times a week. The range and hood are placeholders until we have some wiring done to put in an induction range, at which point the hood will be replaced and I will probably move the TV into the cabinetry.

That sounds like a cool desk thanks for posting about it I guess.

I honestly actually do use it as an ancillary office space, especially during COVID it basically functioned as a standing desk and a change of scenery, video calls with family felt much more natural from the kitchen at a camera and display at standing level, the tablet has 800 nits, so it is actually useable if I want to use a work from home day to actually work on our back patio, I can work on work emails with a giant cooking mess in the kitchen without worrying about breaking my main tablet, a 12 Pro.

Just thought I would share it as a different type of working space, if I had the space I would absolutely have a better TV space and a kitchen office nook with an colorful iMac, but we live in a older home and this was the best solution that I could come up with to have a functional space to do work while cooking dinner.

Well, the Amazon algorithm got me and I replaced my third monitor, but I am actually extremely happy with it..

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C5CX2KH4?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

Looks like this is a design sold by a bunch of companies, $99 is a great price though. My old display wasn't really meant to fit under existing monitors, the ports were messy, the display wasn't great, it was fine for what I used it for, mostly iMessage, weather radar, whatnot, but it wasn't great.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078K1HXQW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Despite saying it is a 1920 x 1080 display, I doubt it.

New one is 12.3 inches, but in an ultrawide 1920 x 860, I believe the specs. Also the screen quality is great, I wish the brightness was a little higher but it's fine. Accepts HDMI in as well as video and power over a single USB-C connection. Touch screen and speakers, the speakers are, not good, but it's $100. I would have been happier if they went with a smaller form factor without speakers though. I guess a nice thing is the speakers and touch screen are USB C as well, so with my setup I have USB C to A for the touchscreen/speakers, HDMI for video and USB C for power. It looks like it powers fine just over USB C to A on my Mac Mini, but I won't want it drawing so much power it.

I think this would be a great display for a headless home server.

Which fine, gamers need chairs and they also need blankets but also I don't see the logical overlap in the marketing at all. I would just assume that gamers with a lot of money to spend on a chair would fully understand that Herman Miller makes good chairs and not need a specific marketing segment to be reached, especially when "Gaming Chair" doesn't even remotely seem to fit into Herman Millers brand in any other way.
