I didn't follow the last thread...it was far too large by the time I had a chance to read so I ignored it, Kudos on the clean slate.

Question: Can anyone tell me why I've never seen a collaboration between the original cast and the later one, in any respect? It's like they're separate spheres...

It would be fun to do a goon riff with proceeds going to Child's Play or the like. I think spliting/pocketing the money is pretty silly. This way it will be a bit more laid back and fun and if it does well the cash will go to a good cause.

Yeah, I agree with this. Although anyone is free to do this thing on his or her own, if we set up an open project on the forum here, I think whatever proceeds (if any, as I don't see why we'd even have to sell it) should go towards some charity.

We would need a few people to do the actual voice-overs though. I know there are a couple of very talented voice actors on the forums, so I figure the best method would be to pick a video, set up an e-mail to receive submitted jokes (or have a forums thread, if we don't mind spoiling all the jokes), have a group edit the submissions into a script, then recruit two or three voice actors to read.

I'd also suggest starting with a pretty short movie, like an episode of X-Files or some equally banal-yet-serious show.

I think I'd like to hold off judgment on a thing like that, sir, until all the facts are in... I don't think it's quite fair to condemn the whole program because of a single slip up, sir.

I'm agreeing with this as a suggestion to those considering it. It's very easy to overestimate your ability to offer consistently funny material for hours straight. I've tried to do some things like this in the past and, while everyone can be funny sometimes, being funny for a long period of time with frequency is hideously draining.

I'm also seconding the recommendation of the Casino Royale Rifftrax. For those of you who remember MST3K, there was almost always at least one joke for each movie where the commentators (Mike, Kevin, and Bill in most of the ones I watch regularly) would have a nice long tangent joke that carried itself. The riff right after (Casino Royale spoiler if you haven't seen it) Bond goes all-in the first time and loses is of that type, and had me laughing my goddamn head off.

Actually, I haven't listened to a Riff yet that wasn't great. The least awesome was the Batman & Robin Riff, and that's only because the joke density started falling off toward the end, which was a bit irritating.

Otherwise, if you're interested, just grab one for a movie you already own and use the Rifftrax Player, because for most people it works well enough to provide you the experience without the complication of manual syncing.

I can't really think of a better use for four bucks than buying one of these Riffs.

Eh not really Mary Jo has done stuff for both Rifftrax AND is currently on Cinematic Titanic. Anyway the only real difference between the "original cast" is Bill Corbett who only worked on the show from Sci-Fi onwards while everyone else worked on the show from the beginning or near enough (for example while Kevin didn't originally do the voice of Servo he was working on behind the scenes stuff for the first season.)

I'd say the reason we haven't seen a Joel+Mike riffing on either CT or RT is just because neither has the time with their OWN projects.

Agreed. Also, I expect eventually, once each has the best possible film picked out, we'll see a Mike/Joel RiffTrax and a Cinematic Titanic with Mike, probably released very close together if not simultaneously. I can't imagine them doing it until they have the closest-to-perfect films, though.

I watched the iRiff of Speed, and it was hilarious, one of the best I've seen. My only problem is that the stupid riff player made the commentary track about 5 seconds early from the point the bus came in to play until the end of the movie. It was fine before that point. No amount of rewinding, fast forwarding, changing chapters, or restarting the program fixed it. I think I'm done with the riff player as it always seems to get out of sync. However, I've never had as much problems with it before. The only reason I prefer using it is because of the audio ducking.

Similarly, I watched the Lady Frankenstein iRiff by Incognito Cinema Warriors XP and it was hilarious (if you can ignore the blatant MST3k ripoff). I've even gone so far as to search for even more of their stuff.

I am definitely down with doing a Labyrinth riff.

While Episode II is less consistent than Phantom Menace or Revenge of the Sith, it has a lot of the best lines about hating sand and loving water.

My favorite has to be: When burying his mom, Anakin picks up a clump of dirt over her grave and the riff says, "I brought you my favorite sand, I hope you like it."

Ocean's Eleven was pretty entertaining, and Richard Cheese did a surprisingly good job. A solid addition to the catalog, but its another case of the movie distracting from the track a little.

I hope they do something completely inane - preferably a book adaptation with a consequentially disjointed, accelerated plot. While I've got my fingers permanently crossed for a Return of the King, I'd love to see Mike get started on the Back to the Future or Die Hard trilogies. No matter how good they are, trilogies always get loving crooked by the second film.

Also, has anyone tried out the Star Treks? I don't think I've ever watched any of the films before (though I remember something about a whale and the 80s or some poo poo), so I've been holding off. Are they worth getting?

The "Star Trek" riffs are pretty funny. The fifth one has a few sync problems, but is overall solid. The sixth one is the best one, because it has all three MST3K guys, and it's hilarious. By "Generations," they lose a bit of steam, but it's still funny.

The movies themselves? Well, the sixth is excellent, while the other two are fairly terrible.

I agree that the Star Trek 6 riff is the best of the Star Treks. It's actually one of their better riffs now that I think about it.

I'm not sure where Bill is, but the point is all these guys are spread out over the country. Too bad none of them made there way over here to the east coast though.
