-Salvage everything you can. You can retire some salvaged ships for RUs, and others are very useful for bolstering the strength of your fleet.
-Ships are generally strongest in the front, and weakest around the engines. Whenever you can, try to encircle the enemy and even hit them in the rear when possible. Make sure to watch your ships' sixes as well.
-Scouts are tiny and weak, but if you put them on Evasive tactics in X formation, very little will be able to hit them and they will make fantastic diversions.
-Never put your capital ships in formation. They'll move far too slowly. You should always put your strike craft (fighters, corvettes) in X formation when moving, Claw when attacking a single target, and Sphere in a major battle. These formations maximize damage and make them harder to hit than Delta/Broad/Wall.
-Enemy capital ships will often attempt to ram yours when their situation gets desperate. Keep your capitals constantly moving!
-Ion frigates
-Don't pursue Lu Bu

Homeworld 2

-Single player is impossible, don't even try.

Homeworld

If you play multiplayer, build Scouts and ignore all other fighters. Target the enemy. Hit F2, then K, then mash the Z button 4000 times. Your Scouts are now untouchable.

If you're playing multiplayer still, that cheat code that the chat room said gave you invulnerability is why your Mothership just exploded. Don't feel bad, just tell everyone else you play that amazing and blessed code. Everyone falls for ACCESS or ESSENTIAL at least once (it was ACCESS for me).

Homeworld 2

Oh God you tried single player didn't you? Well you should know that your Frigates have a lifespan of approximately 20 seconds. Also, Pulsar Corvettes are exceedingly good at ripping other Corvettes, Fighters, and some Frigates to pieces. Build as many Pulsar Corvettes as you can.

Civilization 4

At the beginning of the game, keep at least one warrior on your city, while you research Bronze Working. Once you've got that, build an archer, and fortify him on your city. Use your previously fortifying warrior to look for bronze. Once you find it, build a settler and make a city on/near the bronze. There, enjoy your swordsmen. That should make things easier for you.

Requesting Fable: The Lost Chapters. Awesome thread, by the way, this is really helpful for a lot of games.

Max out Physical Shield and Slow Time as soon as possible. Also, the Heal Life spell also heals friendly/neutral NPCs around you, making it useful for escort missions early on in the game, so go for at least one level of that as well. Combine all that with the fact that you are invincible while rolling, and you're guaranteed to never die, or even take much, if any, damage.

For Overlord don't get too attached to your minions as they'll just die in some battle or another. While they technically pick up equipment from killing enemies its almost entirely cosmetic and doesn't really add anything to their abilities so don't be afraid to just send them to their deaths. While its good to have a mix of minions once you unlock the other races you'll want to mainly stick with the brown ones since they do the most damage to just about everyone.

They do get slightly more powerful, however they benefit more from not dying as much than they do from any offensive bonuses. A good tip for Overlord is to dump enough minions into the stat on your armor that gives you at least a small amount of HP regeneration, and keep doing it over time. It'll let the Overlord rush into battle at times as well and you won't have to worry about the consequences since he'll just heal himself. Maxing out the best set of armor in the game (Arcanum wasn't it? I forget) with a high HP regen stat lets you solo the tower's arena pretty much by yourself (which is almost necessary for some enemies like the giant slugs).

Pick up as much as you can possibly carry from Vault 101. All the security armor, all the police batons, all the helmets, all the beer and bonesaws and random poo poo, everything. What you don't use to repair stuff with later you can sell for a tidy sum to help make the beginning of the game easier.

I know it's an old post but quite a few people have asked for Civ advice and this is pretty lovely. Firstly swordsmen use iron, not bronze. Secondly archers are not built through Bronze working, they (suprisingly) require archery and thirdly in the first 30 or so turns you are not going to need to defend your city. Use the warrior to explore and grab some goodie huts.

You are absolutely right. It had been a while and I was playing Civ Rev and I hosed pretty much all of it up and everyone should just ignore that post because it's pretty much all wrong.

I've messed around with it for quite a while, but whatever I do I really feel like there is something I don't quite "get" about Etrian Odyssey 2. I mean I was expecting to die a few times but honestly, seems I can barely scrape through just a few random encounters. I'm yet to take down a FOE.

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

As far as I can tell, you haven't grinded the level enough times yet. The whole game appears to be one huge grind with minimal plot. I couldn't take it after I realized I had little to no way to restore mana except through resting at an inn and realizing that you have to pay more as you do it meaning you have to progress even further to keep a profit which costs more mana unless you preserve it like a precious commodity and so on.

The only way I've killed a FOE is to build up whatever the stat is called that unleashes the character's special move, unload all of them at once, and hope you've killed it. Of course, this resets if you leave the level for whatever reason, so be prepared to do it in one shot. Fortunately, they don't respawn (or at least I haven't seen them do so).

Pay attention to attribute weaknesses and don't go through the game just using sword and hammer glyphs. If you are finding a boss hard, try some other elements to see if they do more damage.

To elaborate on this, unlike virtually every other Castlevania game, strengths/weaknesses actually matter because enemies can survive more than a couple hits now. You still have a couple useless glyphs (when is Torpor ever really useful?), but the elemental glyphs mostly will get a good amount of use along with the hammer/sword/sickle ones. I almost always have a weapon glyph as my main, and an elemental one as a backup.

In addition, backstepping is actually useful now because enemies hurt a lot more than they used to. Get used to not having a ton of cash unless you want to grind. Speaking of which, find a few gold rings, and there are certain areas/enemies you can grind and never need cash again. However, this shouldn't really be needed if you take into account the attributes/backstepping and the fact that food is more economical and useful for healing than potions are (gently caress super potions they're not worth the cost).

Also see the Alien Blaster. It does 88 points per hit, with the only downside being there are 120 shots for it in the game. All of these are on the ground next to it when you find it. This makes the Deathclaws far less intimidating than they were.

There's another 100 or so in an overturned military truck, but I forget where it is. Considering most things go down in one shot from it, and considering that one shot is usually a critical, you can get about 100 kills out of the thing. Save it for the particularly hard guys and you've beaten the game.

Nope, RBA Starblade, you're by far the most powerful thing in the wasteland at this point. In fact, if you already have Fawkes, you're almost done with the main quest, and there aren't any tough battles remaining. The last mission doesn't require you to be armed with much more than a peashooter.

On Very Hard if you don't bother with other party members but Dogmeat like me than Tesla Armored soldiers and Deathclaws sort of suck. So do Super Mutant Masters. And Mr. Gutsy if you don't have a pulse grenade.

I should've said relatively hard though.

I just started Castevania: Order of Ecclesia after unexpectedly receiving it as a birthday present. One thing so far is really confusing me. Many enemies leave behind glyphs when killed, but holding up to absorb them usually doesn't work. Why? Any other beginner tips are also welcome.

edit: This faq:http://www.gamefaqs.com/portable/ds/file/945837/54512 answered my question. They did not leave glyphs, but merely signaled that they had glyphs. Questionable game design, there.

The annoying part is that some enemies only give glyphs in the middle of an attack; you can't get a Necromancer's glyph without waiting for him to start casting a spell to raise a zombie, for example. You have to wait a bit to see all the attacks before knowing if you need to do something specific, it needs to do something specific, or if it's just a random chance of dropping.

Generally, crippling a leg slows them down to a limp (both goes even slower), shooting the gun hand lowers accurate for one handers, shooting either lowers it for two handers (and again both for even more), and shooting the head lowers accuracy even more. Shooting a crippled limb/torso/head deals additional damage too. This all holds true for the player as well, with the added bonus of blurred vision and audio effects when your head is crippled.

Whether or not you blow a limb off only occurs when the enemy dies, too. It's a random chance (but even more likely with Bloody Mess, and the torso can explode with that too!).

Well, the consecutive hits one works, but as far as I know the Sniper, Commando, and Gunslinger perks no longer give any bonuses to VATS on the PC version. Some people tested it by using the console to remove the perks and targeting the same guy in the same spot, there was no percentage difference.

Thanks for all the quite comprehensive answers to my last question, that cleared everything up.

I just want to know if for the trophies/achievements that are quest related, are all those quests required for playthrough or does completing some of them exclude others from being able to be completed in one playthrough. I'm planning to play through twice, one for good/bad karma character. Will that cover everything in terms of quests?

Yes, but to get all achievements you need to play through three times: you need to hit X, Y, and Z levels with good, bad, and neutral karma for some (I think it's 8, 16, and level 20 but I forget).

I know about this glitch, but I'm trying to avoid using it if possible.

It's not a glitch. Homeworld and Homeworld 2 automatically scale the enemy fleet according to the number of resources you have and your fleet composition. The stronger you are, the stronger the enemy is. Mission 3 is a huge bitch. I don't really have any strategy for it beyond moving the mothership as close to the shipyard as possible, and countering whatever the Vaygr pump out. Once you get a good pause in the action, send bombers up to destroy whichever carrier happens to be the one building frigates (or at the least disable the frigate construction bay).

Also if you do the story up to meeting up with the Brotherhood you can actually use power armor. Since you're unable to equip it until you get trained which only the Brotherhood of Steel can do.

You also automatically gain the ability to use power armor once you finish the Operation: Anchorage DLC.

Despite how much I've played these games, I'm racking my head here to think of specific strategies I used in either. I think what souls you'll use will honestly work itself out no matter what you do. Though there is a specific soul set you have to wear during a late boss fight in order to unlock the true final dungeon: Flame Demon, Succubus, and Giant Bat while fighting Graham.

Similarly in order to get to the rest of the game in Dawn of Sorrow, at one point you will need the Axe Armor, Killer Clown, and Ukoback souls to progress. The game never flat out says this, though, beyond pictures on a wall in one spot. You don't really need to worry about grinding souls in either game, either, there are plenty of common, moderately powerful ones that can last through the game, unless you want some of the end game weapons (in DoS, you combine souls with weak weapons to make better ones, destroying the souls and previous weapon in the process), in which case you'll have to go out of your way on occasion. Note that some souls you can only receive once per playthrough, and two weapons might need the same soul, so you can't get everything in the game at once.

Also, before starting a game of Dawn of Sorrow, put Aria of Sorrow in the DS, put DoS in, and then start. You get a free Rare Ring for it, increasing your luck.

Bionic Commando is on its way from Gamestop. Anything I should know? About the only thing I remember from reviews is that the pistol sucks.

Challenges and collectibles don't save until the game does, so if you die you have to redo them to get the bonuses they yield, which sucks because there's no manual save, the game auto-saves every 10-15 minutes or each area, roughly. Also get used to the arm and the quick-dodge, you're dead if you're not constantly moving, and it's more powerful than a couple weapons are, so use it up close whenever possible to save ammo (you unlock more moves with the bionic arm as you progress in the game).

The most obvious one for Prototype is that you're probably being far sneakier than you need to be. Short of actually attacking anyone (several times), taking off your disguise, or being around the viral detectors long enough no one actually notices or cares what you do, even if you're flying around or walking on walls.

Also when you get it, the Whipfist makes stealing vehicles trivial with its long distance grab.
