Just remember: Only use samples after you clearly understand any and all licensing that they may have. One wouldn't want to get into legal trouble now, would one?

Hey man, I've been there. I do sound design for a living, and while we have a pretty expansive library of sounds I'm legally allowed to use (they're royalty-free sound packs, like Hollywood Edge, Tonstrum, some Boom Library, etc), sometimes, I learn that we don't have a specific sound. I know that I can ALWAYS find something on freesound.org, but I can't use it, since it's usually a 'not for commercial use' licesne, and the last thing I would ever want would be for someone to call me out on it, and not be able to prove that it was legit. I'm sure freesound has some 'use this, I (the submitter) doesn't care!', but I just don't bother at all anymore. Plus, who's to say they uploaded it in earnest?

Goons, I need to know how to recreate the Ghostbusters proton pack/neutrino wand beam sound. Not the startup or shutdown, but when they're actually 'busting' a ghost. From what I can make out, there's a punch at the beginning, most likely a sample used in fight scenes in film, and just filters over one or two white noise signals with some sort of disyortion, while a bass synth (triangle wave maybe?) is played underneath. The bass would have some randomised tremolo, I think as well. Am I even close?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xEcMG2Jvx3k At around 2:20, there's a synth line going up, note by note. Now, it sounds to be a square wave with a soft attack, am I correct in thinking this? There's also a bass-y sound underneath it, sawtooth wave? I would love to recreate this sound exactly as it is, and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good synths to use to get started with that? I guess technically any of them can do, but I'd like to try it out with something like the ImpOscar or Minimonstah, which I own. Is there a setting that has a glide that isn't 100% smooth, but rather plays every note on the way up or down?

snappo posted:Definitely a Minimoog, tracked in two layers. The high layer is a triangle wave with the filter fully open (except for a quick manual sweep on the note before the final descending run), no resonance/emphasis, no filter envelope/contour, 0 attack time, 1 second decay, 0 sustain, "decay switch off", glide off, key tracking off. Wow, holy poo poo, thanks! Man, I need to get better at recognizing my synthesis.

https://youtu.be/P9BfvPjsXXw I'm curious about something here: 29 seconds in, that metallic sound that has a soft attack.

I would love to know how to redo the synth found at the beginning of this video (the Retroware opener) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nbCuUQbr_mQ I know it's close to, if not exactly the same as, the synth sounds of FEZ, which I loved.
