Hmm, what have we here?
I'm thinking about getting into bikes because it looks to have a great price:fun ratio, plus I live in the southwest so it's almost year round riding weather here. I had a cb350 a couple years back that I was restoring just for fun, but sold it before I finished (and learned how to ride.)

As of right now it seems my logical first step is to take the official beginners class and test at the local college and see if I like it. If I do stat shopping around, what's a decent displacement for a beginner, average height and thin? I would love to not kill myself, so I'll be researching proper gear, too.

Very true. It's gonna be awhile before I'm ready to purchase, but I'll hit my AZ bro up if I don't see it sell before then!

Well my bike is stranded with a piece of metal in the center of the rear tire.

-Can I patch it with a car tire plug kit?
-Can I do the above temporarily just to get it home or to a shop?

Not trying to die and I have no clue.

Rolo

Hmm, what have we here?
It’s a clean cylindrical piece of metal that isn’t near the sidewall and went straight in. It’s like a link from a fence or something. I have a plug kit in my car which I’ve used all the drat time because my luck is poo poo.

I’m going to google but I assume I’m tubeless? It’s a 2019 R3.

Rolo

Hmm, what have we here?
They’re the stock R3 Dunlop SportMax’s and they have TUBELESS in giant letters on the side for rubes like me. My friend’s house was a block from where I noticed the puncture so I’m leaving it there overnight with a plug in and I’ll go look at the pressure tomorrow.

I don’t have a tpms so I’ll either buy one (I kinda want to anyways) or just go get the thing replaced. Or I mean if I’m already 100 dollars in the hole I may as well trade it for an SV650 right?

The silver one with the red frame? Right?

Rolo

I already have a decent gauge/pump so I’m just going to get a new tire for the peace of mind and call it problem solved.

Plus while they change it I’ll go sit on bikes which is cool.

I went ahead and dropped my bike off to replace the tire today. Shop had it in stock and on sale and I was coming up on oil so I figured I’d just have them both done.

Anyways they had the new 2020 Ninja 650 sitting on display outside and I sat on it and I really like it. Has anyone here ridden one?

I like how it felt like a sport-tourer. It has a similar feel to my R3 where you can sit up and relax or move your butt back and tuck down a bit. Also:

-Luggage options
-The ugly green (worse in person) ninja sticker looks easy to remove

Love the white.

I like looking at different manufacturers when bikes come out at the end of the year, even crazy expensive hyper sports and giant touring bikes, neither of which I see myself buying ever.

That said, I have no interest in looking at anything Harley. Doesn’t matter what the bike is, I won’t make it past seeing the brand. I think Harley is the only make that does that 100% of the time for me. I’d rather look at a Norton.

I'm interested in the threads opinion on "smaller" bikes. The idea of buying a 300cc motorcycle appeals to me, because I am not looking for a lot of power (and as a beginner would actually be happy about something more tame) and could buy a really appealing bike brand new for a good price.
But so far, everyone has told me I need "at least" 600cc just because and because I am a pretty big guy. Is this just a "a motorcycle has to have better acceleration than a car" thing or would a small bike really croak under me?

How tall and heavy are you? Lots of people here have 250-400’s, myself included, and love them because they’re awesome and fun.

I guess it would depend on the version, but this is a 5 (I think) and the charger door just pops off; I also have a 7 that does the same thing, and I think the new ones don't even have an external case. I don’t know enough throttle part names to ask this question well so here it comes the stupid way:

Can I replace my throttle tube thing, or anything else, to reduce how much I have to twist my 2019 R3 throttle to get from stop to stop? As it stands I have to contort my wrist a lot just to go full open and I’d love to take it down about 20%.
