I'm going to be starting to ride in the very near future, and it seems the general consensus is that these are good to start on, and I like the way the naked ones look. Is this accurate or am I going to kill myself? Note I'm a big person at 6'1" 250.

I just bought this... Click here for the full 1600x1200 image. (lovely iPhone picture. It won't be delivered till Friday most likely.) 2007 SV650 with ~4800 miles. Other than a couple small scratches in the paint, it looks nearly brand new.

My 07 is about $450/year for full coverage through State Farm in NoVa.

As I've mentioned before, my 07 SV is $430 through State Farm for full coverage in an area with many very nice cars.

The SVRider people seem to like the greatdaytoride.com guy's work on their seats. Doing his thing on the rider seat is something like $70 plus shipping through him.

I ordered a set, too. I'm going to hold off installing until I get some springs and shock since I am a huge fatty. Not 300+ but with gear and some luggage, could hit that easy.

Anyone know where I can get a cover for the toolbox slot on a 2nd gen cheaply? I came home from riding today and noticed that it's gone. The toolkit wedges in pretty tightly, but I'm not sure I'd really want to go too far with it like that.

Met up with a bunch of the guys from SVRider for a maintenance day. Really friendly crew! Bunch of girl bikes ITT I didn't have anything to do, so I put some air in my tires and stuck my tax sticker on the fork. Whee. Naturally, on the way back, my clutch started binding so I gotta figure that out tomorrow. EDIT: Loosened the bolt for the lever and it works fine now. Search for SV650 headlamp and they're all there, alhough not necessarily in your bike's color and not very cheap.

Installing clip-ons seems pretty painless provided you're okay with a couple holes in the top triple. Only thing you need to worry about is the cables and hoses being too long, but it's not really a big deal. The other alternative is swapping in clubman bars which is considerably cheaper and gives a very similar riding position.

The lower members on the 1000 look to be longer, as well. The 650 might fit, but nothing will fit right, if that's the case.

I would go on SVRider and see if there's anyone parting out a bike. The parts fiche shows the two sides as separate parts, although BikeBandit is not giving me a good idea of which part exactly you'd want. http://www.bikebandit.com/showschematic/m6706sch500091 Bear in mind that 03 models can only use 03 parts unless you completely swap out the subframe.

2nd gen SVSes had the reservoir separate from the master cylinder like that. I imagine it was the same for first gen.

From everything I hear, they make better touring bikes, but not as good sport bikes since they're more powerful, but also bigger and heavier. Basically the same issues people have on the V-Strom vs. the Wee-Strom. (Not that they're bad bikes.)
