I would like to put a small vintage setup in my dining room, for putting on cheesy jazz records while my wife and I eat dinner and just for general listening. I don't need anything that is going to be terribly loud and I'm not going to be a huge stickler for audiophile quality since it is more of an auxiliary system.

I just picked up a pair of Polk Audio M10 bookshelf speakers from the Black Friday sale on Amazon for $140. Is that a good purchase? All of the vintage speakers that I see cropping up on eBay are HUGE (even when described as "bookshelf") and this set seems like it would fit a little better. Thoughts?

Anyone have any thoughts on this? http://raleigh.craigslist.org/ele/1485256682.html

For $100 seems like a decent deal and it looks like what I want, but I know nothing about turntables so...yeah.

Thoughts on this receiver? The guy has owned it for 33 years, says everything works perfectly. I got him down to $80 but I'm not going to get it until tomorrow so I can back out.

Does anyone make a new turntable that has a more vintage look, for under $200? I'm putting together a little hi-fi area, I have my receiver ready to go, but I don't know the first thing about turntables and I feel like I would do more good than harm by hitting the flea market and buying whatever looks cool.

OK, need an opinion on a few decks:

Technics SL-Q2 (no dust cover, $50)

Pioneer PL-518 ($100)

I have a Pioneer SX-780 receiver, so I'm leaning towards the PL-518, but I really don't know how those two match up.

I've heard Thorens is a good brand -- would you recommend this table for a complete newbie to vinyl?
