I think he can hear you, Ray.
Should we be talking about the Nightmare on Elm St reboot yet?

There's a short bit about it here on chud http://chud.com/articles/articles/18003/1/EXCLUSIVE-HOW-DO-YOU-DEVELOP-A-NIGHTMARE-ON-ELM-STREET/Page1.html

I actually don't mind seeing it re-done, and it looks like they're going with "Freddy as a Molestor" angle this time (Which, as mentioned, as supposed to be the case to begin with, but was nixed at the last minute). But I think there's some stuff there they could mine that wasn't quite prominent enough in the original.

I think the Children being punished for what the Adults did is a great idea. But if they follow that does it adhere TOO close to the original film. And do they treat it as an origin film or do they go with the Ft13th route and treat it as a quasi prequel/sequel?

Alternatively, do they go the 'Part 2' route and make it totally gay?

I'm stoked for the Nightmare reboot. Freddy's storyline has been more good than crappy and always contained much more imagination and weirdness than any of the other slashers. A fresh start is a terrific idea.

One thing I've always wondered about Jason Goes to Hell is, was what was the crate from Creepshow, and the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis doing under that house?

Don't forget the whole family angle they took from Halloween, the demonic dagger from Evil Dead 2 being the method to killing Jason, the Brian DePalma dinner shootout, and the John Woo moves. Basically, the directors/writers said "That looks cool" to a lot of things and threw them, especially since Sam Raimi agreed to loan them the Necronomicon.

Pretty much all of the major slasher franchises have a family angle at some point, except for Child's Play.

In terms of "who should play Freddy," I just read some fan suggestions and agree that Robert Knepper is a great fit. He has a similar "look" to Englund in his younger days, and looks like a child molester--no make up needed.

Just Google his name, in case you haven't seen The Frighteners.

Jeffrey Combs can't be Freddy, he's already been tapped for the big-screen debut of The Question.*

Since we're casting older guys like Brad Dourif and Jeffrey Combs, I'm going to go ahead and say Robert Englund would be a good choice. You folks forget about that guy? :c00lbert:

But yeah, assuming they're casting a younger actor for the reboot, I'm not really sure who to go with.

I just hope they don't lose Freddy's charm, I can see them making him way too humorless, and maybe just angry. Freddy is supposed to be pretty sardonic and patronizing, like he's playing with his victims. Even in the classic original film.

He's very different from the other slasher characters, so I hope Michael Bay's company doesn't treat him like he's Leatherface or Jason.

Just got back from My Bloody Valentine 3-D. I was willing to forgive a lot of faults, because I love a good slasher movie, but I can't bring myself to say it was any good. Some of the 3-D effects were pretty cool, but outside of that and a couple lines that were so corny that they were funny (mostly from Mr. Tom Atkins), the movie was pretty dull and even dumber than the usual slasher flick.

Here's hoping the Friday the 13th remake brings the goods. Then again I'm a huge fanboy of the series and have enjoyed every Jason movie to some degree at least, so it may take a hell of a lot to get me to hate this one.

My wife rocks. I asked her what she wants to do for Valentines Day. She said she wants to make a nice meal together at home since the restaurants around here usually have limited menus of overpriced food on V Day, and then she wants to go see Friday the 13th afterward.

Not true, plus I didn't even mention one liners. In the first film he's a slick bastard, and somewhat playful, while still terrifying. Like he's just toying with his victims. Very different from the regular slasher mold.

It will be really cool to see how they re-imagine Freddy's burned face. Consider how familiar the old look is and how much more frightening you have to create it in order to compete with modern villains like The Joker. In fact I think some of the original Joker concepts would've been perfect for a slasher film like TCM.

Ok, think of Freddy as catlike, where as Jason or Michael Myers are a rottweiler. Or an angry bear. :3:

And he's a real prankster, like when he stuck his tongue through the phone. I just hope they don't make Freddy all "extreme". The man has class. At least, until the end of the film when he's had enough.

I see where you are coming from, but I personally wouldn't call the gag where he sticks his tongue through the phone "classy" or "prank-ish". That and the "I'm your boyfriend now" line make it like one step removed from an attempted rape. His only other real gags in that one are slicing himself open and cutting his own fingers off. Beyond that, there aren't many flashes of his personality at all, so I'd say overall he comes across as a pretty menacing and sinister killer who likes to taunt his victims (especially Nancy).

I'd consider the tongue prank-ish, I mean it's done for Freddy's twisted amusement. Jason doesn't really do stuff like that, he's always out for the kill. Freddy's relative classiness, compared to other slashers, and his personality are evident in the movie. Even just from body language, though I do admit classy is a weird word to use here.

And I'm not disagreeing that Freddy is menacing and sinister, he certainly is. But he brings other elements to the table as well, which make him such a great character.

Granted, nobody's saying that Freddy is like Jason, I'm just hoping Michael Bay's boys realize this as well.

I think A Nightmare On Elm Street has a lot more subtleties to it than Friday The 13th, not that I don't love those flicks too. It'll be harder to do this one right, though I am hopeful.
