foodfight posted:Holy crap have we talked about The Tall Man yet? Directed by Pascal Laugier, the director of Martyrs, its closer to a mystery thriller (I guess), even though the trailer sells its as a Jeepers Creepers-esque horror movie. I would say it is no where near as good as Martyrs but it was enough for me to keep tracking this guys career. For some reason I heard it was a slenderman based movie and was delighted to find out it wasn't, however after watching the trailer I'm not so sure about it. Could you perhaps give a more in depth review?

I know this is blasphemy, but I just got around to watching the original 1980 Friday the 13th last night. I enjoyed it thoroughly, but it was different from what I expected. Could someone clear some stuff up for me? So it was Jason's mom that was killing people the whole time? Why was Jason in the lake at the end? How did he survive this long if he drowned? Was he living in a lake while his Mom killed people? How does he change to the famed hockey masked behemoth? Maybe ive got it all confused, but some clarification would be much appreciated. Like I said, definitely different than I expected. I'm gonna watch Part 2 tonight, which my friend tells me is where the famed Jason in a hockey mask comes. Though it still confuses me why/how Jason was in the water at the end

No hockey mask in Part II? I'm dissapointed.... I've actually seen the remake (which was kinda odd since I usually watch the originals beforehand), and didn't really enjoy it. Maybe it's because I haven't seen the rest of the franchise (yet), but I thought it was kind of boring in a way. Maybe it just wasn't what I expected it to be.

So guys, I need your help again! I've saved up enough money that I have enough to indulge in a small collection of slasher blu-ray's (my goal is to build up over time). Which would you reccomend? I've got the "classics" (I.E. the original Halloween and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre on DVD, so unless there's a big difference I don't think I need them on blu-ray right now.) Are there slashers that look good on blu-ray, or that I should own on a blu-ray disc? Thoughts/reccomendations? Thanks guys!

Thanks for the advice everyone! SO far I'm going with -The Burning -Terror Train -The Prowler -The Hills Have Eyes (2006, I just like this movie) -New York Ripper -If they have any Friday the 13th or Evil Dead movies on Blu-Ray, I'll pick some of those up too! Any other input, suggestions would be much appreciated!

I actually saw The Burning on Netflix (not sure if it was the uncut version or not) and thought it was excellent! Ill definitely be picking up the blu ray when it comes out. As for New York Ripper, the gorier and more violent the better, so ill be picking that up. Friday the 13ths for six bucks in bluray? Yes please! Anybody know if any of the Evil Dead movies have had a bluray release?

Has anyone else seen Are You Scared? ? Its atrocious. Its a carbon copy of Saw, the acting and special effects are awful, the plot just sucks, the camerawork and editting are reminescent of a film I did in 6th grade, and the characters are stereotypical. The film cant decide what it wants to be. Some of the traps are interesting, but overall it was awful Anyone else see it? Thoughts?

Oh god-theres a sequel? I feel obligated to watch it now and revel in its raw awfulness. Slasherfan youve got the right movie. It was pretty bad. Ive never heard of Steel Trap but I like the Saw movies so ill hav r to check it out. Speaking of Saw, ive seen all the Saw/Hostel movies. Does anyone have reccomendations for more of those darker torture porn style films?

Does anybody know where I can watch the Collector? Its not on Netflix instant or On Demand, and id prefer not to order it online until ive seen it. The Collection looks great though! Side note: in my quest to watch all the Friday the 13th movies, I finished Part III last night. He finally got the hockey mask! I thought it was much better than two, but different from one. Its hard to compare 1 and 3 in my opinion. How is it generally rated amongst the others? (Besides the awful 3D moments).

I need reccomendations, as lately I've been having bad luck in my horror choices. I like darker, more violent-bordering on tortureporn type movies that still have certain depth/plot to them (Think Saw and the Texas Chainsaw films). I've seen all the Hostels and also saw the Collector (which I thought was great!). Other reccomendations?

I picked up, among other things The Woods Have Eyes while going on a slasher bluray shopping spree. I had never even heard of it before but the Hills Have Eyes is one of my favorite movies, so I thought maybe this was connected in some way or another. Picked it up for 6 bucks and looked it up online. Ye gods, it looks absolutely atrocious. Has anybody seen it and if so is it even worth watching?

I concur, it really was absolutely stupid on my part, but I was in a shopping craze and just threw it in with the rest. But now I must watch it. Oh the regrets....

Would I have more luck with the first or should I just not bother if I didn't like this one? I loved The Beginning and the 2003 remakes. The Beginning is darker/gorier, but as a whole I think the 2003 one is better, though I enjoyed The Begining more. The original still remains by far the best though, and 3D is going to be terrible in my opinion.

Per the suggestion of Demozthenes, I watched Frontier(s) and thought it was great! Just the type of film I was looking for, gory, horrifying and enjoyable. I think I'll skip on Hostel Part III though. Just not worth the time.

I watched Silent Night today. I thought it was great! The story wasn't great, but it was enough to support the plot. The acting in my opinion was great on all parts, be it the lead character detective, the killer, or the victims. The best performance was by Malcolm Mcdowell (Who I thought was great in the Halloween remake), who's role as the egotistical full of himself police chief was hilarious and well done. The kills were pretty creative, gory and satisfying. The ending was good too, added a nice twist. Plus there was boobs and a "garbage day" reference, so that was awesome. Did anybody else see it?

At first I thought the Mom was a drug addict and her daughter was simply stopping her, it was a great twist on that and very satisfying to see that bitch get killed Also, the part where The priest gets killed is awesome. He definitely deserved it, and the kill was great and the whole part with the old lady and the killer was awesome Kvlt! fucked around with this message at 00:33 on Dec 9, 2012 |

So I usually watch slasher/tortureporn movies. I want to expand my tastes a bit horror wise. I've seen the classics (The Exorcist, Blair Witch, Rosemary's Baby, etc). I want to be terrified! Any reccomendations for true horror that would really scare me? As I said, I usually watch goreporn so it can have gore in it but I would prefer the focus to be on scaring me. Thanks!

Yup, I think I'll skip on Vile. I watched The Final instead for my tortureporn fix. It was...dissapointing. Great concept and design (in terms of costume design and such), but poor casting choices, not enough gore, and a weak execution of an interesting plot). You might want to check it out if your bored and looking for something mild, but otherwise I'd skip it.

I watched Black Christmas [2007 remake] yesterday. I haven't seen the original, but I thought the remake was decent. It dragged on a bit long and I thought the whole incest thing was weird and kinda disconnected with the film, especially since the kid was like 10 when he hosed his Mom. Overall some decent kills and a great holiday theme I enjoyed it. I also saw Silent Night remake, which was great. Any other good X-mas themed horror? Thanks!

Seems I'll pass on Rare Exports. Now, I have another question. I just picked up The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beggining on bluray. I'm a huge fan of the original but didn't like the 2003 remake that much. What should I expect from this one?

SO I picked up some new Christmas goodies. On DVD I received as gifts the following: The Boogeyman The Fog [2005 remake] (Came in a double feature with the Boogeyman Friday the 13th: Killer Cut (2009 remake) Halloween (1978 original) The Cabin in the Woods I loved the Cabin in the Woods and of course my favorite is still Halloween. I watched The Boogeyman today and it was downright awful: Unlikable characters, a weak plot, no scares, awful CGI, and a horrible ending. I was going to watch The Fog and was wondering how it was...not so sure on it. Anyone see it? If so, thoughts? I'm also a huge John Carpenter fan and I saw The Ward yesterday, I thought it was actually pretty good, not Carpenter's best work but it had an interesting setting/story and was decent to watch for an hour and a half.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Out of all of them, I've only seen Let the Right One in (but I thought the American version Let Me in was better, probably because Chloe Grace Moretz is my favorite actress). I'll check out the other movies though! In other news, today I watched for the first time The Blair Witch Project. Could someone explain this to me? I didn't really get it...how is it a horror movie? It's just a bunch of people going crazy in the woods. There were definitely some spooky parts, Like when they discovered the weird sticks outside their tent in the morning, but in the end there was no closure. What happened? What happened with Josh? I need someone to explain this to me! Thanks!

So I know this might be a weird request...but I really like me some goreporn/tortureporn movies, however I've become desensitized. I've seen all the Saw films, all the Hostel films, Human Centipede 1 and 2, Cannibal Holocaust, 120 days of Sodom and A Serbian Film. Is there anything more extreme out there or am I just desensitized beyond repair?
