I almost cried when I heard the release date for this. I'll be in California with all of my horror buff friends until January 13th, but then I'll be in Boston, where I don't know a single person who likes horror movies at all. Goon meet?

Echoing everyone's sentiments in this thread. I got everything I wanted out of it -- full frontal female nudity, some people getting hosed up in horrific fashion, poo poo flying out of the screen, and some homages to the original MBV (shoving someone in the drier). gently caress, it even gets bonus points for having a midget getting loving owned. The ending was kind of disappointing, because I was really hoping that they'd go for a nice big swerve and have it either be Harry Warden or Black Cop, and I felt that they really hosed the audience over by having a scene that effectively eliminated the killer from speculation by locking him in a loving cage. Oh well -- it was good fun; my friends and I laughed our asses off the entire time and made the people next to us uncomfortable by cheering when people got pickaxed instead of cringing.

How can people hate Jason X? It has the virtual reality scene at Camp Crystal lake with the fake stereotypical college kids, which takes place during the loving climax of all places. It's awesome -- I've never laughed so hard during a horror movie as I did during that scene.

I'm gonna go with "fantastic" as my vote for Friday the 13th. There were a plethora of unique kills, the acting was pretty solid for a slasher (certainly better than MBV3D), and hey, tits. As horribly racist as this sounds, my favorite part of the movie was the fact that I saw it in a theater that was predominantly black, so when Lawrence was fleeing from Jason the whole theater was screaming and cheering. It was hilarious. I'm stoked that this did well at the box office, because Friday the 13th is my favorite horror franchise and I'd love to see more.

I'm considering double-dosing on horror movies this weekend and checking out Fright Night and Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. The latter is solely because Guillermo del Toro earned a special place in my heart with The Devil's Backbone, Pan's Labyrinth, and The Orphanage, and now I feel compelled to see everything he produces.

I really liked Hush, but because the entire thing takes place at night in a house without power, I couldn't see a loving thing in some scenes even with the TV brightness maxed out. Like, I have no idea what she wrote on the window in her blood Definitely agree with whoever said it would make a gear double feature with You're Next.

Whispering Machines posted:Like others said it must be a problem with your screen because it was definitely very visible. Using her lipstick she wrote something like "Please go away won't say anything didn't see your face boyfriend coming over soon" or something like that I saw all that. The scene I was thinking of was toward the end. I rewatched the scene in a darkened room and it says COWARD. Watching The Witch now. So far the most horrifying thing is the thought of living as a Puritan in the 18th century.

I watched Girl in Woods today. Weird film. General plot is that a girl with a disturbing past and her fiancée go on a hike; he dies, horror ensues. The plot meanders for a little while, and then it totally goes off the rails by the end. It kind of abuses the unreliable narrator shtick, but overall it was entertaining. Also the running time is 88 minutes, ha.

I let some random "best horror films of the 21st century" convince me to watch Session 9. What a piece of poo poo. The first hour of the movie is dramatic conversations between an asbestos removal crew. The last 30 minutes is moderately interesting, but the poorly written script, overacting, and off-screen kills just destroy the whole thing. The concept for the film is fine; the pacing and well, just about everything else is awful. At least now I know the source for:

Snak posted:I just watched it for the first time last week, and while I didn't think it was bad, it was definitely flawed. It basically just made me want to watch You're Next. So I liked Hush, and I thought a few parts were really strong, bit overall it felt incomplete and shallow. I agree. Hush wasn't amazing, but it was a serviceable home invasion movie with an interesting hook. Unfortunately, most of what it sought to do has been done better, and You're Next is a perfect example of that. I really dig the home invasion genre, as when it's done well, it can really get under my skin. The best example I can think of recently is Inside. Man, that was a brutal film. Someone earlier mentioned that there have been a number of great French horror films, but the only ones I can think of are Inside and Martyrs. And Martyrs had an outstanding first half before it devolved into the most literal expression of torture porn I've ever sat through.
