Your car did good  I don't have to contend with moose but I've been taught that if I see a kangaroo and a collision is inevitable, don't brake too heavily or else the front of the car will dip and flip the kangaroo through the windscreen and in to me  My new car is here but here's my old car after a kangaroo at 120km/h. I didn't brake, but I did lift off... it went right over the top:  It cost my insurance company $9000 to repair but they did and I drove it for a further two years. If I'd slammed the anchors on, I'd have been in a world of pain.

You Am I posted:$9000 for only that amount of damage? Holy poo poo, all I can see is the bonnet being a bit bent, did the roo bounce along your roof. I've seen cars looking worse after dealing with a kangaroo at slower speeds.  I'd driven from Adelaide to Thredbo and back, and this happened five minutes from home on the freeway (near the Stirling exit for any Adelaide goons) after not having seen a single dead or alive kangaroo the 2700km round trip. I'm loving the R36, it's an enormous step up from a VY Commodore and even from a mark 5 Golf GTI.

It's quick enough, but it's too heavy to punt through corners like a Golf GTI or something. It's a great tourer, though. I haven't driven the R50 but the thought of it makes me very happy... twin turbo V10 diesel! Dad has had a diesel Q7 for years but unfortunately it's not the V12 diesel.

I thought that was a pretty good deal until I realised that the same amount of money in the US would have put me in an M3/C63 or very nearly in to a 911. That said, it's a great car. It's an RS6's baby cousin, and about one quarter the price. No mechanical issues, either, unlike my previous Holdens and Toyotas. It does love petrol, though, especially the way I drive it (manually with flappy paddles and an aversion to anything above third gear if I can avoid it). I've recently ordered an A45 to replace a 2006 Golf GTI (for my mother, but I'll drive it and the A250 Sport was boring). I don't even want to think about the money or what I could buy with it in another market...

I posted this guy in the hot hatch thread shortly after I got it and just before I hosed off overseas for six weeks. I've been home for a few days and I'm in love all over again. So ridiculous, so fast, and an absolute riot to drive. I'm yet to fully figure out the Command system, and wish the stupid screen were a touch screen, but whatever. I find myself going everywhere the long way and probably annoying everybody with the way I provoke all the hilarious noises it makes.

It's the baby AMG - the A45. Two litre turbocharge four cylinder, all wheel drive, 355 horsepower, and this will take it to 410hp and 413ftlb. Tempting!

Also the interior felt cramped, I couldn't see out, but every new car feels like that.. It's the seven speed twin clutch thing. It's not as responsive as the six speed Volkswagen DSG in my R36. I mean, it can be, but it likes to hesitate a lot more on downshifts. Upshifts are lightning fast and on demand. I'm still getting used to it but I kind of like it. I only ever drive it in manual mode. None of this "comfort" or "sport" malarkey. Interestingly, unlike the VW DSG's I'm very familiar with, when it hits the rev limiter it doesn't change up. If VW ever release an R36 successor I'm not expecting any more than about $28000 on the trade in, maybe about $5000 more if I were to sell it privately. Mine's six years old and has done only around 48000km. They depreciate like falling stones, particularly since mine doesn't have the reversing camera (VW Australia forgot to tell the factory to attach it) and missed out on the MY10 (I think) adaptive cruise control, upgraded instrument cluster, and dynamic suspension. Aside from routine servicing at a VW specialist, it hasn't cost me anything but tyres, oil, and fuel. Nothing has gone wrong with it and I think there's been one recall for some warranty work, but that's it. It does like to drink, though, and much like the A45 I don't drive it for economy. Why use 5th gear when 2nd will do? It's driven enthusiastically but it's always been treated sympathetically.
