Quick thanks for Zoowick and his instructionable utubs... Picked up a few handy pointers during them, even if I'm not shooting for the exact same technique described :)

I guess I want to click the auto button in LR for each picture then reduce exposure by 1 EV. Probably not possible to automate this.
Is there no way of copying one processed shots setting and then 'pasting to all selected' in grid view..?

[edit]

Any use?

[editedit] ah sorry, that will only be the auto settings for the one photo, not a new auto setting for each. Maybe a photoshop action?

Same thing happened to me. It got so bad that my computer would actually shut itself off sometimes while in LR, especially during exports. That's when I opened up my box and saw that my CPU heatsink was covered in about 3 inches of dust. Cleaned it out, now LR runs very fast.

Woops, had this very thing twice last night, time to open up the box and clean the dust bunnies out :o:

When using AEB in order to create an HDR image later, what would cause you to use a greater range of exposures rather than three similar exposures? A friend and I were wondering earlier and neither of us could get our head around it. Would it be something to do with greater lighting differences in the scene, thus making a much greater and much reduced exposure more helpful?

If I'm reading your question right; the 'greater lighting differences' bit is it precisely - if you have 3 similar exposed shots and try and pull a HDR out of them you won't get any benefit from the extra shots - sure, you can maybe push one shot and pull the other in Lightroom, but that only gets you a little latitude in the brights and darks - now of you have 3 exposures, one 2 stops under and one 2 stops over you can pull any blown highlight detail out of the underexposed shot and extra shadow detail out of the overexposed shot. You'll find bracketed 7 shot HDRs out there where people wanted a massive range of exposure to work with.

Not sure which thread this would be best in :o:

For UK goons, these guys:

http://www.yfcanvas.com/PhotoUpload.aspx

have a 75% off code for all their canvas prints:

I've had a couple done in the past and they came out really nice... I know you're buying sight-unseen/uncorrected, but my canvasses came out OK, maybe just a hair dark.

Cool, post when you get it :)

While we talk plugins; imagenomic Portraiture is excellent for a first pass on people photos as long as you keep it on a low setting. I love it, total timesaver.

With that said, for something where you are just looking to click a button and INSTRAGRAM or something it could be fun to mess around with,
:o: I kinda like this bit, the random seed wet plate frames and scratches are nicely implemented; not 'great art' by any means, but if you want the 'hipster process' on your pc, this is a good starting point.

Anyone use Color Efex? I think Silver Efex is excellent, is the color one more of the same quality?

I haven't tried this, but if anyone is on a real tight budget and wants to avoid wonky :filez: Lightroom/Apeture installs, give http://www.darktable.org/features/ a whirl and see if it works for you.

<edit> note there's currently no windows binaries, so you'll need to get busy with linux if you're not a mac user :o:

If anyone wants to 'Instagram' their photos on their PC but doesn't want to pay the big monies for AlienSkin 4 filters, have a look at CameraBag2 currently for 50% off sale on the Steam store.

For a fiver I'll have a dabble :)

Is it even worth trying to close out the light source at the top of the frame? I didn't notice it when I took the shot and now it's really distracting me :sigh:

I've tried cloning it out a few times, each is a bit closer, but I'm just not very good at it. Any clone tool tips?

I guess I could just crop it a bit more and then clone out the rest.

This should be an OK clonejob as there's a strong set of horizontals to work with - if you set your clone point on the border of the blue and tan and then move the destination point horizontally and make sure the preview clone is level (this may only be in newer photoshop versions, you'll have to just eyeball it if theres no clone preview) you should be able to take out all the fitting in a few strokes. Make sure you 'stop and go' or the clone source will pick up the fitting as you pass over where it was originally, the brown bit at the top you'll need to do a lot of short strokes.

Literal 3 minute job:

If anyone fancies trialling Phase One's 'Capture One Express 6' raw editing software, it's currently free (rather than $99) if you use the code DCM2013 at the checkout.

http://www.phaseone.com/dcm

I'll most likely try this and go back to Lightroom, but for any photo nubs with little spare cash, this might be a good first step past in-camera Jpegs :)

Take a copy of the trails long enough to cover the gap onto a new layer, then go Edit > Transform > Warp, and use the control handles to shape the new layer into the gap... Finish up with some 1600% touching up of the adjoining ends.

Yeah I hope this isn't a first last step for the old full-fat desktop LR, having to bung whole complete cards of RAW files into and out of the :yayclod: isn't my idea of fun.

Also I hope the Full LR to mobile sync is still in place, I found it useful for proofing/culling on my iPad and getting client feedback / final say on shots quickly and easily.

I'd just like to point out that for less than a quid the 'Makeup Director' software in this bundle is good for a giggle if nothing else (even with a light touch it ends up a bit drag queen / child beauty pageant) :o:
