So I really like working out to Lamb of God...mainly because of the heavy guitar and not so much the screaming. I could do without that honestly. I like Trivium as well for the same reasons.

Anything out there that has heavy, metal-esque guitar riffs, but a little less screaming? I realize that they probably go hand in hand but I might as well ask. I don't mind a little however.

I'm going to give you some stuff that I relate to what you're asking for; whether or not other people would agree might be a different story. Unfortunately, I think MOST of what you're asking for is going to have some screaming in it. The biggest thing is finding someone who you think does it with a touch of class! Hopefully there's something here you'll like.

First, I'm going to agree with the above poster that you might like Protest the Hero My recommendation would be to listen to Bury the Hatchet:

Vampira My favorite of the bunch

Devin Townsend-Ziltoid the Omniscient might also get you pretty good. The whole cd is a story he wrote as a kid, transformed into a VERY good album. Here is one song:

Jadz: Dude, hello to my tastes like 3 years ago. Those bands were pretty much my <3. Whether you want to hear it or not, this is your entrance into metal. There's no going back now. :)

If you give me a few minutes I'll look through my library to see what I can find for you. Note: Each of the listed bands has a female vocalist in there somewhere, bar Nevermore.

PS: Het, Kudos to you for the Lullacry recommendation. That would have been my first.

Recommendtions
Aghora: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ9vrEMBznU
In This Moment http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eecFm2iRo7Q
Nevermove: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a90HLwl6IfA
Nightwish: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SO4LyKd-Hws
Ram Zet: (this may be a stretch, but they've got some pretty great stuff. Wait a bit, the female vocals will kick in eventually, and make it worth the wait, imo) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy1Zmy6kiU8&feature=related

Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing a couple more bands doing what they do. It seems like most of the bands that do that sort of metal opt for the more operatic style rather than the more pop/rock style Lullacry has (which I think really defines the music)

I just discovered In This Moment today. They seem to be up that alley, and would be worth looking into. Their last cd, "The Dream" is pretty drat good.
Their single "Forever" made it onto charts, and I'm pretty fond of "Lost at Sea" as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0-0F6xYU4rw

I'm looking for some more stuff along the lines of
Circa Surive

I'm already a fan of Saosin, and dig Anberlin's "New Surrender" as well as Coheed and Cambria's debut album (jury is still out on this). I've also heard a few things from Choidos and Sounds of Animals Fighting, both of which have been hit/miss with what I've heard.

Thanks.

Errrr, so I know nothing about the four trillion different genres of metal, but I like a decent bit of melodic stuff, and basically anything with some sort of crazy guitar work in. A sample of the bands I listen to is Bal-Sagoth, Wintersun, Dream Theater, Symphony X, Protest The Hero, Opeth, In Flames, Mastodon etc. Other stuff not metal such as Fall of Troy, QOTSA, Interpol, Flaming Lips I enjoy to get a sense of what I think is decent. Most of those bands probably sound generic to you lot but i'd appriciate any recommendations you guys have as i'm a little lost with all these genres to pick from.

You sound a lot like me.

As for metal, try:
At the Gates
Atreyu
Bury Your Dead
Children of Bodom
Chimaira
Cult of Luna
Dark Tranquility
Devin Townsend
Devin Townsend Band
Disarmonia Mundi
Disfear
Disillusion
Hypocrisy
Iron Maiden
Kataonia
Killswitch Engage
Lacuna Coil
Nightwish
Ram Zet
Soilwork
Sonata Arctica
Strapping Young Lad

As for some other stuff you might be into:
Alexisonfire
Break the Silence
HORSE the band

See my posts in the last couple of pages for links to several of these band's videos that I recommend!

Try these too:
Rx Bandits - ...And the Battle Begun
Dredg (I don't really dig 'em but I can see why many people do)
Minus the Bear - Highly Refined Pirates
Portugal. The Man

I'm sure I could come up with more, but that's a decent start.

Thanks. I shall begin listening tomorrow :)

Oddly enough Amazon has a song of their's (Portugal) as the free song download today. Dug it a good bit. :)

Looking to get into some "house" music. I downloaded "World's Greatest Electro House" from amazon for $3, and have fallen in love.

Anyone got anything that would go well with this?

I can't go off of what the other couple of guys posted about, because I don't know/follow those bands, but I think I might have some stuff you could possibly get into.

If you don't like harsh male vocals (ie-strained all the time), you might dig Anthony Green and his projects.
a) Anthony Green solo- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEPgnsyOy-0
b) Anthony Green w/ Saosin (acoustic)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqsJeeVXZQE&feature=related
Now if acoustic is too girly but you dig his vocals, try his w/ band work.
c) Anthony Green in Saosin- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3n0Zi_LDA6I
d) My FavoriteAnthony Green in Circa Survive- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cOZlAunMb8o

If you like this stuff, you also might like Anberlin:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OjDBGGkinkw

Lily Allen could also be something easy and cool to get into. I know that everyone I know is impressed with me liking her :smug: She's pretty fun to listen to, and has had a couple of hit songs (ie SMILE):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K2paoITayM&feature=related
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Qa28ZrHPcc&feature=related

Also, if you've never gotten into them, Incubus could be GREAT for you. I'm hard pressed to think of anyone who doesn't like at least a few of their songs.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QY4FvpmmbiU
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbCnn7ug40E&feature=channel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7A-vfaspLHM&feature=channel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mvZY3-y4l8Q&feature=channel

If you like any of this, let me know, and I can pull up some more stuff.

monkeyboydc posted:

But the bands I mentioned previously feel like they share a lot in common sound-wise with a few other bands I've really been enjoying lately, bands that I wouldn't think would be considered electronic. Silversun Pickups (more their first album than their second), Metric, The Killers to an extent (Mr. Brightside, Smile Like You Mean It), and The Strokes a bit also (Reptilia, Between Love and Hate). Maybe some Muse songs? A little bit similar to Hysteria and Bliss?

I think what I like about all of them is the catchy keyboard/synth stuff in some of the bands and the guitar work in others. If I'm making any sense at all and someone has anything similar to recommend (it would be the perfect music if it has what I was discussing earlier, combined with cool lyrics) I would be eternally grateful.

Only bands I can go off here are Muse and Killers.

Can anybody recommend me some instrumental bands? I'm a complete newbie when it comes to music without vocals. I'm looking for classical, rock, metal, orchestral, etc types of instrumental music. I've been listening to artists like The Glitch Mob, Deepset, Beast Please Be Still, Chris Joss, and a few others..for my example of variety. Some more classical with guitar/bass or drum n' bass stuff might be a nice.

I'm not necessarily looking for post-rock type stuff, but I don't mind it incorporated into instrumental tracks as long as it's not repetitive to the point of it getting annoying.

I need some music to help get my creative juices flowing and keep me concentrated. Unfortunately with bands that have vocals I end up getting distracted by them and end up humming/singing along and not focusing. Any help is greatly appreciated, sorry for such a vague request :smith:

Some loose fits. I don't know how exactly I'd categorize them, but I tried. I listen to them, and like them. Hopefully that's enough. :)

Kevin Carafa (goon, type his name in and look for myspace page) (rocky)
Mogwai (abmient?)
The Non-Profits (jazzy rockish?)
Cyrus pace (jazzy)

If you google "World's Greatest Electro House" it'll come up with a myspace page in which you can stream a few of the songs. Unfortunately, the songs they let you stream aren't the best, imo. Definitely worth $3.
