ARE THOSE MY SPERMS posted:

I want some upbeat somewhat electric indie, that are similar to any of these bands:

Foster the People
Vampire Weekend
MGMT (such as the songs, Kids, Time to Pretend, or Electric Feel)
Passion Pit

don't be afraid to name whatever band, even if chances are very high that I've heard of them before... I've been without music for two years so chances are that I've forgotten bands or haven't heard of some band that was huge for a while in that time. thanks!

Los Campesinos! Start with Hold on Now, Youngster...

Anyway I had a pretty broad request about a month ago that didn't get any replies so here it is again:

What are some bands/artists with rockin', really energetic, kind of dancey, kind of noisy tunes like:

Royal Trux
The Go! Team
Sleigh Bells
and Beck

I guess it's mostly alt rock with some hip hop influence, but Fatboy Slim has a similar feel and I know that's big beat but it draws a lot from rock and hip hop.

I guess Beastie Boys fit too. Don't worry if you think I've heard of something already or it's really obvious.

Thanks! I'll check them out, I haven't really browsed Pitchfork that much but when I find I like a band I'll look them up there.

It sounds like you're just reading reviews to validate your tastes, instead of using them as a starting point to discover new things, which (ideally) is what media reviews are for in the first place.

Flipper's "Generic" always felt similar to me.

Hahahaha, good one.

Any recommendations for dark shoegaze or postpunk influenced bands that sound similar to Ride's song Unfamiliar or A Place to Bury Strangers' Exploding Head album in general?

You may have already heard of them, but Skywave should be right up your alley. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ww1IghJxyt4

They eventually split into A Place to Bury Strangers and Ceremony. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nNeyESSTBhU

Alcian Blue also hung out with them from time to time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LrIAU8nYkuI

Then there's Screen Vinyl Image https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DG-oe5-lbM

The Soft Moon (less shoegaze but a similar strain of post-punk) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9t8Oex9BpQ

and Have A Nice Life. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ri5F633xSsY

I dunno if this will be helpful to you but I find this Chrome extension invaluable for browsing threads with lots of embedded youtubes: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/sa-forums-lightweight-thr/ijdihgeikohegdnjbbgjkdaahpbkpnef

It's nice because it allows you to keep the embedding feature on SA on (letting you see the video title, etc.) without having to deal with huge load times while dozens of youtubes load.

Alternately, if you just want to see the title of the video without the big preview image there's this extension. https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/video-title-adder/ddpephnhacfpgcemhioaejgenlgadnnh?utm_source=chrome-app-launcher-info-dialog

Here's a thought experiment: if I asked for bands that sounded like the Smiths, but the only Smiths song you know was "How Soon Is Now?" what would you recommend?

I'd never played Streets of Rage 3 until recently and was surprised by how different the soundtrack was compared to the first two. Anyway, this one particular track reminds me of something (not from a videogame) but I can't seem to place it.

Even if you can't name a specific track, what artists or styles/genres are in the ballpark of this track?

Hum. Some of the tracks on Outrun Europa might be your speed? Kind of 80s-retro digital music.

No, that's not really the same kind of thing. What I'm looking for is more 90s dance music.
