That's why I'm looking for more stuff, and Alcest's and Jesu stuff seemed great. Also I dunno if you like hip-hop at all but you might like to check out Dalek, they combine rap with a sort of industrial/shoegaze/noiserock production. They're loving awesome and are one of the most original hip hop groups around right now. Here's a quote from wiki: quote:Dälek's music is dark, noisy and atmospheric, equally inspired by industrial music like Einstürzende Neubauten, the layered noise of My Bloody Valentine and the dense sound collages of Public Enemy...They have been described as trip-hop, glitch-hop, and metal- shoegaze-hip-hop If you're interested look for their album Absence Paperhouse fucked around with this message at 07:33 on Oct 14, 2009 |

Count Harper posted:Recently, however, I began listening to Rin Toshite Shigure and they're quite good. I want to find more Japanese music that actually has artistic merit, without having to sift through terrible pop songs that sound like anime theme music, as well as bands that blatantly rip off their influences. I'm not really looking for typical pop at all, actually. Anything obscure would be great, at the risk of sounding like a pretentious rear end in a top hat. Thanks! Kuki Shuukyo Also you might like to try downy, they're a pretty awesome rock band that have a very realised melancholy sound in all of their stuff. It's pretty haunting, depressing and often ethereal stuff but it rocks too. Some songs: Zen Hidari no Shu

The songs him and I have come up with thus far: Broken Heart - Spiritualized Anthems for a 17 Year Old Girl - Broken Social Scene Fake Empire - The National Thursday - Asobi Seksu Comforting Sounds - Mew Consequence - The Notwist Shoes - Akron/Family hopefully at least one of these is something like what you're looking for

I've been really enjoying listening to Fats Waller's "Ain't Misbehavin'" album recently, I want more stride piano like it. I don't really like jazz type stuff when it gets all noodley and wanky, and I like there being a whole band rather than just piano or what have you. I tried listening to some Scott Joplin but it turned out to be just piano and it was kind of boring. tl;dr, more stuff like Fats Waller Paperhouse fucked around with this message at 17:55 on Mar 20, 2010 |
