I recently went to a folk festival and was reminded how much I love the bagpipes. After having also loved the latest Titus Andronicus album (which features bagpipes) it got me wondering if anyone knows of any non-folk bands that use bagpipes to good effect?

Also a related request does anyone know of any band which have a similar Chaotic but sing-along type sound to Titus?

I just recently discovered The Postal Service (relatively old, I know), and was wondering what are some bands with a similar sound? Some of my favorite songs by TPS are "Such Great Heights", "This Place is a Prison", and "We Will Become Silhouettes".

It's a shame they didn't make more music than they did. :(

Well there's always Deathcab For Cutie, the singers other band, though it's not electronic.

Also Owl City sounds a lot like The Postal Service, I don't think they're as good but it's the same sound.

Also Dntell if you just want instrumental electronic is the other guy from the postal service.

Stars - Set Yourself On Fire. The whole album.

While that is a fantastic album and song it's odd you picked that song as it only features Amy Milan singing, in fact there are quite a number of tracks in which only one singer sings, or that one sings and one sings and provides very minimal backing vocals.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=55FMOJMhV9s is an example of them both singing on Set Yourself On Fire.

The previous album (Heart) has more with them both singing however and is just as good if not better in my opinion.

Thanks for all the replies.

Also I wasn't really sure what I was looking for which is why the question was so vague. Although I did say 'good songs'. Some of those songs.. :psyduck:

Well that's the problem, nobody actually knew what you were into so nobody had any idea what you would consider good songs.

Does anyone know some good songs that feature both male and female vocals? I am not particular about the genre.

Just remembered. The Evens, it has Ian MacKaye from Fugazi singing with a Amy Farina from the Warmers. And it's just as awesome as you'd expect anything featuring Ian MacKay to be.

I am a massive Mountain Goats fan and love everything John has ever done but I do sometimes feel the recent stuff loses something in the improved production, don't get me wrong he still writes beautiful songs with amazing lyrics but I sometimes miss the straightforward beauty of songs like this.

So yeah, anyone got any reccomendations for other simple lofi bedroom folk style songs in a similar vein to early Mountain Goats? Just one man, one guitar and one tape recorder kind of setup.
