Okay, now I want bands that sound like animal collective but only on their Merriweather Post Pavilion album.

Tame Impala scratches that same itch for me.
Unknown Mortal Orchestra to a lesser extent too

OK, I'm looking for cover songs with a weird set of criteria. I want to hear covers that are genre-swapped and/or gender-swapped and preferably not weak acoustic guitar covers. I've been listening pretty heavily to In the Air by Alex MIDI, Sex by Cheat Codes, and Look Good in Leather by Ceci Bastida. Anything like these would be great, thanks!

im into weird covers:

So I found out this weekend that I bloody love Bon Iver. I was sat in a mikkeller bar in Copenhagen drinking some funky sours, and Calgary came on. Floored me.

I've listened to all their stuff on Spotify while at work today. Any suggestions for similar folky/poppy/rock stuff?

James Blake. He has a darker, more electronic sound, but his voice is just as beautiful. They even did a song together!

Any recommendations?

do you listen to any of Jeremy Soule's stuff from the other video game OSTs he's done? his stuff from icewind dale was top notch fantasy music. granted some of it is action-fighty music, but there's lots of beautiful stuff in there. kuldahar's theme comes to mind

I'm looking for primitive, lo fi synth stuff, in the vein of 80s Maurizio Bianchi. Some Will Over Matter material is kind of like this, and so is this dude https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKXUSOLp-KI, but I haven't heard much else that's similar. I'm already aware of some of the 80s italian noise/PE guys who were influenced by M.B. but I'm not really looking for straight up noise here.

Pretty late to this post, but I thought I’d recommend Animals as Leaders if you haven’t already heard of them. No vocals, just excellent prog metal, very high technical skill, Tosin Abasi has quickly become one of my favorite all-time guitarists and Matt Garstka is a drum legend.

SLEEP is pretty much the pinnacle of psychedelic metal to me (i guess it would be stoner metal). They have lyrics in some parts of their stuff, but there's often long 20 minute stretches of pure buzzsaw guitar. I suppose start here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hIw7oeZKpZc
