Actually not too horrible. I was expecting apartment prices to jump, but it seems there are a lot of empty units and prices have dropped a bit. I'm in an apartment right now and the unit next to me has been empty for months, and it's a pretty desirable floor plan.

Definitely possible to find something reasonable on the salary we're talking.

Cavepimp, is it completely necessary to have MCP? I have A+, but do not have MCP or CCNA. Would you possibly have training for that or maybe have a 90 day window or such? I have a lot of experience as being the general computer guy. I do help desk, light admin work, some SQL, hardware, software, network. A little bit of everything.

Also, I live in Florida, but I don't expect moving help, just extra time before I can start working.

The reason the MS certs are so important is because we're a small company and our MS Partner status depends on them. If it's possible to pass one exam relatively quickly I believe that's all we'd need (at least at first) since the owner and I are both MCSE.

In other words, it's important but probably not a deal breaker by itself. Don't let it keep you from sending over your resume.

Cavepimp, how flexible is that salary range? any chance in the 50-55k range?

I'm not going to say it's impossible as I'm not the one that would be deciding such things, but I do believe that's a bit higher than the boss had in mind (at least right now...there's always some room to grow into things around here). Ultimately that would come down to you and the owner hashing it out based on what you bring to the table.

Just an update: we're putting that job opening I listed earlier on hold for now. It may open up again in the near future, but for now I edited it out. Sorry about that guys.

The above listing for the affiliate/reseller programs for the online backup service is definitely still on the table.

One small change: Affiliate program is 15%, resellers are 20%. The difference? Affiliates sign people up and we handle billing all of them. Resellers sign people up, bill the customers themselves, and we bill the reseller for total space used at a 20% discount. Your choice. Either way we'll sign a non-compete if you're an IT service provider.

I haven't seen any emails from anyone here yet, but I have a hard time believing nobody is interested in a program that pays 15-20%. Every other affiliate program I've seen is much lower and it's only a one-time deal. This is recurring monthly income! Email me before we change our minds!

I'm the program manager for this, so you'll be talking to "the guy".

That's cool, I'll edit it out. I'm not trying to rub people the wrong way or anything, just throwing an opportunity out there. (Not a multi-level pyramid or anything, by the way)

Thanks to everyone for the emails sent so far. We're still in gathering mode and should be getting in touch with people within the next couple weeks. My boss is a bit noncommittal on the timeframe so far.

You're probably actually hurting yourself and your credibility quite a bit with numbers like that. Yes, salary can vary pretty wildly, but you'd be far better off with the generic "negotiable" or "competitive" when asked to put something down. At least that's more neutral, rather than having someone looking at $10 when they're prepared to hand out $15-$20 and dismissing you because "there must be something wrong with you."

Well, I left my job in April to start my own company and a series of things outside of my control have me looking for a job again. Too bad, since business was going pretty well.

My experience: 10+ years total IT support experience, split about equal between SMB and Enterprise environments. Somewhat of a "jack of all trades" type with a solid balance of desktop/laptop/server/network and HW/SW. I've basically had at least some exposure to just about anything, and can learn anything new faster than you'd think. MCSE, MCSA, A+ certs and can get anything else you want. The past 5 years I've done mostly Windows Sysadmin/Network Admin work, with project management (pretty much all phases), supervising teams of contractors and other vendors, served as the primary server operations contact at Intel's largest campus in OR. Familiar with datacenter operations, ITIL, change control (served on boards for several DCs), you name it. I could go on and on here, but you probably get the idea.
What I'm looking for: Something interesting, preferably. Would like to be in an enterprise environment again, with some influence. Managing a team would be great, but not necessary. Strongly prefer being on the internal support side (not external customers), although I'm highly experienced (and very good) supporting and consulting with external clients.
What I'm NOT looking for: Anything under $20-$25/hr or so, front-line help desk (may consider supervisory position), and I'm not a programmer/developer.
Where I live: Beaverton, OR (temporarily, can move)
Where I'm looking: Preferably Beaverton/Tigard/Hillsboro area, but open to pretty much anywhere in the country if relocation assistance is available.
When I can start: Instantaneously if local, if relocating within a few weeks.
Requirements: Medical/Dental mandatory, vision and 401k nice, anything else is great
Can be reached via: This thread or email: cavepimp@gmail.com

I'm a bit fed up with my current 70 hour a week, ridiculously understaffed situation and am going to give my notice tomorrow, so here I am.

My experience: 15 years of IT experience in support and sysadmin roles, including stints at Intel, an MSP-style shop, and most recently as The Guy Who Has The IT Manager Title But Spends His Whole Day On Hands-On Work And Is Basically The Team Lead at a software development company. I've been up to my elbows in nearly anything Microsoft, including Active Directory, Exchange, Hyper-V, clustering, Sharepoint, CRM, SQL, IIS, System Center, and more. I'm well versed in VMware and could probably have the VCP within a matter of weeks, and have set up multiple clusters of both VMware and Hyper-V along with EMC VNX/VNXe block storage. On the networking side, I'd consider my knowledge intermediate in a well-rounded way. VLANs, firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs of various types, web filtering, to name a few. I am intimately familiar with PCI DSS compliance and how it translates to building a real world compliant environment.

What I'm looking for: I'm ideally looking either for a sysadmin position that is a bit more focused (virtualization, storage, security, and/or complaince) or to move into more of a systems engineer position. I've been the most senior person at my last couple jobs and really miss having peers who I can bounce complicated ideas off of without getting blank stares back. Being on a team and surrounded by ridiculously smart people again would be amazing.

What I'm NOT looking for: Helpdesk, "wears many hats" situations, not really looking for an MSP job unless it's more of an Engineer/Architect role.

Where I live: Portland, OR

Where I'm looking: Portland area. May be open to other areas if the offer and situation are right. I don't have much tying me down.

When I can start: 3-4 weeks, maybe a bit sooner. If relocating, maybe a bit longer.

Requirements: Health, dental, vision, good time off, good work/life balance. Salary requirements are in the ballpark of low six figures. Negotiable depending on situation, benefits, and job requirements, obviously.

Can be reached via: cavepimp@gmail.com - I'll reply from my actual email address.

Job Seeker

Who am I?:
An IT generalist systems administrator/engineer with 15 years of experience managing Windows environments who enjoys a good challenge. In addition to the normal Windows stuff, I'm well versed in Exchange, SQL, CRM, SharePoint, networking and firewalls, VMware, Hyper-V, EMC VNX and VNXe storage, and have spent the past 8 years or so heavily focused on overhaul and upgrade projects. The past couple years, in addition to handing engineering/admin duties, I took on more managerial/supervisory stuff like hiring/firing, project planning and management, sitting in pointless meetings, and writing policies and procedures. I am also intimately familiar with PCI compliance but have mixed feelings actually typing that.

What I'm looking for
Ideally, I want to correct course and head back down a technical path that has a focus on virtualization, storage, or possibly compliance/security. VMware is the most interesting to me, and I'm about to sit for the VCP5 exam in the next few weeks. At the end of the day, I am really looking for an environment where I am an expert on a particular discipline and not spread as thin as I have been in recent years.

What I'm not looking for
Helpdesk, desktop support, junior positions, overly-generalist situations, or MSPs (unless there is a senior/specialist role)

Where I'm Looking For It
Portland, OR and the surrounding areas. I could probably be convinced to move slightly farther away if the situation was perfect.

Requirements
Health, dental, 401k, decent PTO. Salary should be in the general range of $100k, give or take

Quoting myself because I'm still looking for that right (non-MSP) fit. I do now have the VCP5-DCV certification as well.
