About the only thing remoted positive about the old alignment system was seeing a Neutral Good character talk about slitting the throat of a helpless lackey of the bad guy and being able to say "You are playing your character wrong" and have the mechanics support you.

And even then, it's really kind of terrible. When I originally got my character I wrote "John McClane" for alignment, feeling it was in the spirit of what the alignment system was trying to accomplish. The DM didn't appreciate it at all.

That is awesome. "Detect John McClane"

I just love the guy saying you have to PRETEND your character is a demon or PRETEND they have infernal pact. As if imagination is something we discourage in this hobby/game.

You know, though, I would incredibly not mind an errata'd giant collection volume of all the PHB/MM/DMG when they're done putting them out. As in, a Complete Player's Handbook containing material from 1,2,3. It'd be a bit unwieldy but I would love to have it for a reference book.

That's an interesting question. If you mean in total number of sessions, not at all often. Heck, my characters don't get *captured* all that often.

If you mean how many of my characters have ever been gangraped at any point, the percentage goes up. Of course, I often play characters living on the edge of society, doing dangerous things, taunting bad guys and wearing the closest thing to club clothes the setting allows. While I defend every woman's right to say no, under any circumstances, if that's how you face evil, evil is going to make you suffer if you get caught. It's worth noting men aren;t immune to this treatment in our games. I suspect we've had about as many male characters raped or castrated we've had female character gangraped.

In some campaigns, it never comes up. But when we run high intensity games, it's a possibility. And I *used* to run the angry, raped woman scorned Red Sonja type character a lot, which makes it part of the background.

In this case I shrugged it off because I wasn't invested in Limelight yet. It was her first session. And I liked the second idea better, so the GM went ahead and let me have her have been killed. But if you read Black Days of Kor Kammor over at the paizo messageboards, you'll see rape is an iongoing consequence of characters in our grittier games.

:psyduck:

edit:
I thought it might be cool to play a character that brings her enemies to sexual climax by proximity. Concious or otherwise. Try rapeing a girl who makes you climax when you come within two meters of her. hehe.

Interesting times for her superteam though...

This is the danger of living off anecdotal evidence. Grognards travel in grognard circles and see nobody buying the game. They just assume that everyone is like them.

It doesn't to me, and it didn't to my group. We quite frankly got bored of just throwing dice at every problem. Having a monster that different characters shine against isn't going to single-handedly ruin your perfect balance if you have a balanced encounter.

This presupposes that your encounter is just "HERE ARE FIVE RUST MONSTERS IN A 25x25 ROOM." Perhaps a more logical encounter might be one rust monster, with some other monsters who can be fought by the fighter for backup.

Or are you the sort of player who whines about spotlight balance if your DM puts an archer on a raised piece of terrain so you can't easily walk over and hit him a few times, or uses a flying monster?

And then once the fighter is done engaging their special target meant for them, they still get to sit out if they finished first. It's just a bad gameplay decision, overall. Playing to the character's strengths is just not the same as "completely gently caress up melee characters". I mean, is there really a choice involved if you do that? Hm, will I hit the underling with my sword or will I hit the monster that will literally eat my sword, I wonder which is the better choice. No choice, no fun.
