Why can't anyone just make a motard that doesn't need frequent oil changes and valve adjustments, is over 400ccs, and isn't super pricey? Maybe I'm asking for too much, I'd also like a decent sized gas tank.

From what I've read the Aprilia SXVs are a maintenance nightmare but some people do report the 550 going up to 140 mph. Haven't done too much research on the others but I think the KTM 690 is what I'd be looking for if I had the money to spend.

Here's question: Do you motard guys wear different gear than than sportbikers? Or if you ride or have rode both, would you gear up differently?

Duke vs SM: is that just deciding if you want clip-ons or a regular handlebar?

690 Duke doesn't have as much ground clearance as the exhaust is mounted under the frame.

My commuter and fun ride. It's a 2008 Yamaha XT 660 X, the supermoto version of the "R". My only modification was the removal of all red stickers, and i really dig the all white look.

Heard that it's not being sold in the US... you guys are missing out on a massivly vibrating one-cylinder direct injection engine with 660ccm, enormous torque in the low revs and really nice brakes.

It's no horsepower/weight monster like all the ktms out there, but a very flexible bike. driving in and around town is great fun, and no car and most bikes can not follow you in traffic. the high mirrors and handlebars allow me to pass between lanes in front of traffic lights where lower bikes can not go.

My sole issue is the lack of availability of a windshield for longer trips. 120km/h and more get *very* windy...

I would say that thing is pretty cool but it weighs about 400 lbs dry.

As for sliding off the side thats what I did and it will just take some getting used to. I ended up resting my thigh on the seat and just hanging off the side at any stops.

Which side do you hang off?

The BMW X-Moto has the same wheels. They are made by Marchesini (duh) but for some reason not branded as such.

Definitely go for that last one. I'm very tempted to sell my Grand National to get a motard. I really like the Duke IIs but I can't stand that grey color. The green is merely ok. I'd really like one in white although that's not a factory color. Also I can't stand the stock cast wheels especially in silver. 625 SMCs for some reason seem hold their value a lot higher and people are even asking for more than some of the cheaper 690s which confuses me.

Apparently someone makes a turbo kit for WR250X's.

OK, taking another stab at this: Opinions?

The only issue is getting it home. I don't have easy access to a pickup and riding it home is basically not an option.

If the bike isn't too far and the bike is still registered by the owner you may see if he is willing to ride it to your place if you purchase it.

Has anyone here ever used Evans waterless coolant? Saw Jay Leno talking about it on his site a few weeks ago and it looks pretty cool. http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/waterless-engine-coolant/1376127

Lots of offroader/enduro guys use it apparently. I just found a retailer in the uk that'll ship to Ireland and debating buying it. I'd be interested to hear anyones personal experience of it.

Surprising lack of reviews online for it despite the product being 15+ years old now.
