I watched so many Braille videos during the pandemic, I think like anything that gets that big that fast they've definitely peaked and the formula is now pretty played out but I'd guess they got a lot of people into skating which was their stated purpose. It's kinda funny that nowadays random Dan Corrigan videos where he goes to a skatepark and yells at the Powell guys get as many views as their overworked gimmick videos. It's nice to see them actually just skate instead of scream catchphrases.

Braille put out this clip vid today. They seem to catch a lot of internet hate, but this is some very fine skate in a particularly well-done edit:

Yeah, they catch internet hate because Kyro (and some of the others(?)) is a Scientologist, and while he doesn't push it in the Braille videos, he has contributed heavily to the cult and during the beginning of the pandemic donated around/over a million dollars. Most of which undoubtedly came from views and purchases of merch and gear.

I was hoping this was going to be a real how to because I've been struggling a manny trick lately, specifically tiny fakie half cab to regular manual. I'm trying this up a bank to flat, not by ollieing onto a manual pad. I've gotten a couple but man it is so hard to hold the manual and not over rotate. I've found that if I setup my front foot more towards the heel edge of the board than normal it seems to mitigate some of the over rotation, but that's still not cutting it. I have manuals no problem, it's the rotation into them that causes issue. I end up in the manual fine but my body wants to keep rotating so I'm left doing the swimmy flail arms to try to mitigate the over rotation

It's really cool to read skateboarding talk in this thread. I think these are easier going up something like onto a manual pad, or a small wooden box. I find that the rotation for me is all in the shoulders so if focus on my shoulders being where they need to be I won't over rotate. It's a really fun trick.

thanks for the tip, I'm going keep an eye on my shoulders and see what's up.
In my mind I imagine this is easier with a popped half cab up on to a manual pad but unfortunately the manual pad at the local park is normal ledge height so it's a bit tall for this old man to half cab up it.
I could probably get away with it on something smaller.

There's a diy pad near me that got wrecked by the city but it's still smooth so you can skate it. That lil curb is slick as gently caress.

Dislocated my elbow instead and now I've had my tendons reattached and carbon fibre put in there.

Oof. Back at the end of May I thought it might be cool to try and ride across some rail tracks with my new Dragon wheels. It wasn't. My truck hung up, and I got pitched into the pavement, absorbing most of the impact with my left kneecap and hands. The mobility returned and the pain is gone but now I have a squishy pocket of joint effusion in my knee that's just kind of sticking around, I guess. I need to learn how to roll-fall like Buster Keaton instead of smacking the ground like a dead flounder.

So I haven't been on a skateboard in...at least 20yrs, and wasn't good back then cause I always preferred BMX.

So naturally at 36 now I want to try again because jfc I need something.

That all really doesn't matter, I'm mostly wondering on wheels right now before I go buy poo poo this week. Are namebrand wheels a legit thing I will even notice vs the half the price skateshop wheels? $20 vs $40+, it seems like.

for harder durometer wheels you probably won't notice a difference, but some people swear by formula 4. supposedly powell dragons are the old guy wheel of choice, but i haven't ridden them.

I was figuring 8.5 board, still not sure on trucks (probably just independent hollows) but dunno what size, and 54mm wheels 99 or 101a. Probably just roll around my garage and driveway at first, maybe get brave and ride around the neighborhood.

E: lol moot point for now. Talking to a buddy at work and end up with a full setup in my trunk now to try out.

I started again and I'm in my mid-50s. It hurts watching people ollie. Bowl skating is very, very easy on the knees, so that's mostly waht I do now, and I'm getting comfortable with the idea that I won't ever be doing the stuff I did 29 years ago when I quit, and that has made it fun, rather than a constant disappointment that I can't do what I used to be able to. I just went to a local skatepark this morning to practice my dumb lil tic tacs and freak out when I get near a ramp. Only other dude out there was probably mid 50s or later just skating flow lines and it looked so fun.

Also they had painted a bunch of the ramps and a few spots on flat and that poo poo was like a Mario kart boost. I was powersliding the nose doing tic tacs and then would launch myself off the board when it hit concrete again, expecting the nose to slide.

Edit: also it has to be a universal rule that moms all give stank face when a skateboard makes noise
