I'm a Futaba guy myself, but if I was in the market for a radio I'd strongly consider a Spektrum unit now. Less batteries, lighter and reasonably priced. The DX3R even has telemetry (which is bad loving rear end)

Pretty sure LiPos will work with that motor / esc. You'll need a charger and balancer iirc.

Thanks for the info. I read about telemetry and it sound like a cool feature to have. I'll look into the Dx3R. I'm trying to spread the cost out for this over time, so maybe I'll wait a little longer to get the cool radio. I assume that once you have a good radio, you reuse it on any other cars you have in the future, so it's probably worth saving up for a good one.

Whoops I got the model numbers wrong, it's the DX3S that has telemetry. http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPM3130

Comes with two receivers, one with telemetry and one without.

And yes, a nice radio is worth it. I bought a Futaba 3PM 2.4 with 10 model memory. Adding another car to my arsenal is as simple as picking up a new receiver. Used receivers usually sell for around $65, so it's pretty great.

You know, you could just adjust the end points on your radio so that half-throttle is the max.

Or, I don't know how programmable the ESC is, but I bet you can play with the settings on it to achieve the same thing.

On top of that he had a full set of aluminum arms, aluminum (why not get titanium?) turnbuckles, and piggyback shocks. You know, at least with plastic it will just flex a bit. Aluminum is just going to bend under any kind of serious stress. And then there's the part about dumping $300 worth of parts with negligible performance benefits on a $200 car.

I also like the guys that put mods on their factory team trucks. Hey guys, you know that's pretty much the exact car they just won the worlds with, right? Really, invest your time in the track.

The Spektrum has more adjustments for fine-tuning but only 4 model memory, the Sanwa has 10-model memory.

I think you might be mixing your models? The DX3.0S comes with two receivers and 10 model memory whereas the DX3.0 has one receiver and 4 model memory.

An Associated Monster GT 4.6SE from what I can guess. It has a 2-speed tranny, but lacks piggyback shocks? Engine has been swapped for an OS .30VG-ES.

That retarded battery box came like that

And here's the terrible RDLogic pipe with ghetto 3-piece manifold.

This thing is loud as hell. It also seems incredibly hard to tune. I am not entirely convinced it is providing enough backpressure to the fuel tank.

The new pipe

It's a direct pull-off from an RTR Losi XXL. Some people apparently buy RTRs and part them out for ebay. Whatever, I got a decent pipe and manifold for $20 shipped. This is pretty much the most awesome way to get parts. Stuff like Traxxas gear is incredibly easy to get.

Now here comes the problem

Also pictured: my grody-rear end exhaust gasket

The sideskirts get in the way. I'm not too torn up about chopping it up, I have a spare.

So, after removing the skirt I can fit the muffler on and start to do a little more analysis.

In my test fitting earlier, I was concerned about proximity to the battery box. But that doesn't look like it will be a problem.

My incredibly sloppy work on the skirt

And some test fitting

The pipe contacts the skirt somewhere toward the middle and I ended up sanding it down. I'll post the finished product tomorrow.

I was fitting the body on last night and started to realize that this was probably not an amazing idea. The pipe doesn't fit underneath the body, so I'll have to cut it up. Luckily, I have two bodies: the stock one, and a much nicer Proline one. I guess I won't get hung up about chopping the stock body.

When I bought the pipe, I just kind of assumed it would fit. There was space on the left side and a notch for the pipe tip in the skirt. There was even a hole for the pipe spring.

But now after all this work, I'm starting to think I should have just bought a stock pipe. Or at least done a bit more hunting on Tower for the dimensions.

Oh well, lesson learned.

Pre-Orders to dealers sky rocketed within minutes of the announcement. Expected street price is going to be less than $400 USD. 40+ MPH out of the box with the included electronics/battery. 60+ with a 3S Li-Po. It was designed to have a Mamba Monster (read: 1/8 scale system) drop in, with 80+ MPH potential. Why - Why would anyone need to go that fast?

This doesn't surprise me at all. The Slayer is a Revo 3.3 chassis with shorter arms. The 1/16th E-Revo and Slash are the same chassis, which is a shrunken E-Revo chassis. So, it follows that a 4x4 Slash would come from an E-Revo and thus potentially get the 1/8th Mamba that goes in the Brushless E-Revo.

Now, I wonder what this means for CORR racing. Slash 2wd is a popular spec class because it's cheap as gently caress. We got CORR racing from that because the other manufacturers jumped on board. And when the other manufacturers got on, they kind of stepped up the game. The 2wd Slash is an old Stampede chassis, it's not really in the same league as the T4 chassis in the SC10. I guess what I'm really saying is, I hope this spurs Associated to make an SC104. An RC10B44 with different arms and towers.

poo poo, that's a tempting custom build. I need to take a closer look at the arms on the SC10 and B44

By the way, I picked up 3300mAh NiMh packs for like $30ea at Radio Shack. Seems pretty cheap compared to hobby store prices. I initially got them for my starter box, but we'll see how they do in this role.

Anyone got a good idea for charge rates on these kinds of things? They aren't marked for any of that kind of information. I know my 1500mAh packs back in the day would charge with a 15-minute timer. That puts the charge rate at about 4A. Think I can safely stuff 10A into these packs?

I'd like to know how that brushless setup runs. I'm running a 19T brushed, and like it. But someday I'll probably convert to Brushless.

Yeah, I remember RCCA did a special Clodzilla with dual brushless motors from airplanes back in the day. Nobody had even really considered stuffing one of those beasts in a car yet. (They were also hilariously expensive and not sanctioned by any race bodies.)

Since I am just getting back into electric a bit, I decided I didn't want to deal with brushed. I was gonna get good, new technology right off the bat. Of course, I don't really have the money to blow on nice LiPos yet, so I'll just lurk the B/S/T forum and look for a good deal on used ones.

I only burned through about 2/3's of a 3300 pack before I got bored of doing laps in the street. Didn't time it, but I was out there for a while.

That was last night. I've already posted in the local indoor racing thread to see what's up. :(

I'm gonna see about stuffing some FT shocks from a spare parts RC10GT stash on it. If only Associated hadn't gone through about 3 different shock cartridge designs I could figure out if either of my rebuild kits will work on them.

So, this truck came with 12mm hex conversion kit for running Slash tires and rims. Previous owner had put Pro-line Epic Bead-loc rims on it with stadium truck tires mounted on it. Partial ribbed in front, holeshots in the rear. First off, it looks stupid. The tires and rims don't even fit under the body like they should. Short Course trucks are about scale looks. Second, why would you put stadium truck tires on this thing? Just buy a loving T4! And last of all, the bead-locs weigh about a hundred million pounds. Rotating mass heyoooooooooooooo.

Also - the Team Associated off road shock design has remained unchanged for over two decades. You will want Associated part number 6440 to rebuild any shocks that have been on the GT, or SC10. The other thing to get is the new bleeder caps, #6443. Make building AE shocks 100 times easier, and you get it right the first time, every time.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is just the front knuckles from a Slash fitted to this thing. The nuts holding the wheels on are 7mm.

Any leads on a voltage regulator that will cut-off or provide an alarm if I get too low on the pack? I have a Futaba 2.4Ghz system and the failsafe will activate if the rx pack gets too low, but I don't know where that cutoff lies. I suppose 92% efficiency on that UBEC combined with a 6v output setting means it will stop providing 6v below 6.52v input. 6.4v is about the ideal cutoff for a 2S LiPo pack.
