So I have a 3D printer and someone designed a fully 3d printed 1:8 scale r/c Jeep rock crawler. Being that I have a real life size Jeep rock crawler, I needed a mini me.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted but I’ve been lurking.

I’ve got a couple Jeep builds I’ve done too.

The yellow one is in the process of being rebuilt with the knowledge I got from the other one. But it’s on the back burner as I’ve got a huuuuge project I’m trying to get done

That action figure is six inches, btw.

Are the Jeeps based off the scx10? I was actually able to use some printed parts that were made for the scx10 on mine even though it's not quite the same size.

No, they’re GCM Skeleton J2s. http://gcmracing.ca/viewcategory.php?groupid=49. Though they both use scx10 transmissions and the yellow one has scx10II axles.

Very cool!

Is 1:28 stuff fun? Apparently there is a whole open source 1:28 3d printed world that I've fallen into and I need a new 3d printer project during this stupid time period.

Hey r/c guys, maybe you can help me out here.

I'm trying to source some springs for a 3d printing project I'm working on

The springs look like this

and have the following specs

.40" ID x .45" OD x .75"-1.25" L

Someone on another forum mentioned those look very similar to r/c car springs and they are right, however I'm having trouble finding specific specs on the r/c car springs.

Anyone have any idea whether there are any r/c car springs that are similar to these specs?

Have you looked on McMaster-Carr? I didn't look up your exact specs but they've rarely let me down for other weird stuff.

So I've finally got some more info about these springs from the company that is selling them, though they only sell them in a kit which comes with a bunch of other hardware I don't need.

They are custom manufactured specifically for this 3d project and do not exist in this size outside of the kit they are sold in.

So, awesome.....he says if I want I can make my own by winding some piano wire. Thanks dude.

You're already 3d printing so I think you're almost all the way there. Fab up a jig and buy a bunch of piano wire (cheap!) and make your own springs.

Honestly I just looked into it and, it's pretty straight forward. So ya, I'll probably just make my own springs. Just have to find a dowel that's the right diameter and go for it.

Can you not print it? Or do you need that spring to make the printer functional in the first place?

As others said, chances are mcmaster has something close enough to what you need.

I'm printing/building this

and need the springs for the valve springs

Hi, my name is Chris and I make bad financial decisions. Thanks to the AI Facebook group i got convinced to pull the trigger on a scale crawler finally. I'm excited to take this thing down some of the walking trails in the forests around here.

I've also been eyeballing a lot of bodies and bumpers and other fun extra bits and I can see myself dumping a small fortune into this. It's a shame nobody makes a Jeep J10 or Grand Wagoneer body though :shobon:

Got a friend with a 3d printer? :)

My 3d printed Jeep is roughly the size as those SCX10's and I've printed out a bunch of parts for it

So the guy who designed the Jeep I printed out has just released a new model

It's pretty badass and might have to get printed out now!

A pretty awesome shot of it in action

Is gluing the tires to the wheels a thing? This thing just rips them right off!

That Beetle is awesome! It looks like an absolute riot!

Also, Crawler guys / anyone else who might have an idea: Does anyone have a good suggestion for a pre-made interior for my SCX10? Or something along those lines if that makes sense.

I have a JConcepts GMC K10 body on the way along with a bunch of other scale bits, and I REALLY want to do clear windows with a scale interior and action figure driver to really complete the look, but I genuinely have no idea where to start. Do peoples / companies make scale interiors that you can just glue to the body or whatever or is that sort of thing almost entirely custom fabbed?

You can try this if you want

Go here -> https://www.thingiverse.com/ and search for SCX10 stuff and if you find something you want I'd be more than happy to print it out for you.
