I do usually produce a stream of words in my head when I'm thinking, which creates the illusion that the thoughts and the words are the same thing. But on reflection, the words are a byproduct of the thoughts. As soon as I try to write down the exact words that make up any complicated thought, the gap between the words and the thought becomes obvious.
