If your old license is digital, changing the motherboard alone is enough for the hash to no longer be valid. You can probably just call/chat in and say you had to change the motherboard though.

Tesseraction posted:Might be a bit of an interesting question to ask here - how can I find out what hardware is sending signals to a specific software? Are you using Steam to manage your controller input at all? What I've found is that lately (last several months) it's started to just randomly choose community controller button layout templates that have a decent rating rather than just using the generic gamepad layout. Started up a game the other day and the cursor just kept floating away from me until I told Steam to use a sane button layout. Haven't really dug into it yet to see if I can stop Steam from picking these random layouts in the first place, though. astral fucked around with this message at 19:01 on May 18, 2020 |

I'm assuming it would try controlling with Steam closed? Shouldn't be Steam in that case. Have you already tried unplugging/replugging the controller? If you go to Windows' "Set up USB Game Controllers" and hit Properties, does it show the inputs being wacky? quote:Edit: I've tried just using a mouse with the controller unplugged and the issue remains. edit: Yikes. Squashy Nipples posted:Hey, I didn't see an Office thread, so posting here. I'd recommend comparing the licensing costs and whether you'd get additional value out of those extra features FunOne mentioned. If not, there's no sense in paying in perpetuity for software that works well and receives updates for a long time (unless you need support, of course). Standalone versions of Office traditionally have received ten years of extended support: Office 2007 went EOL in 2017 and Office 2010 goes EOL this October. I'm glad you posted because it reminded me that a family member is still using 2010 and I'll need to let them know they need to upgrade soon in case it doesn't spam them with notifications saying as much.

Future Son posted:So my pc is >10years old and still runs on Windows XP. Almost no software runs on it anymore since the world has abandoned my OS, and it has gotten too slow even for opening websites. I don’t think anything is mechanically wrong, but maybe something is dying. Yeah, as you've surmised you need to (a) backup your files, (b) flatten and install something that isn't horribly insecure, and (c) do not run any executables from your backup ever because that computer quite possibly hasn't belonged just to you for a while now. Reasonable upgrades for your >10 year old PC include buying a cheap SSD instead of whatever old hard drive, seeing if someone has some old RAM you could use, and upgrading your video card. What kind of processor does it have? At that point you could probably buy a new or maybe used computer that's much better than what you have for pretty cheap.

Where would be the best place to look for any temp files from Snipping Tool (if that application saves things temporarily in the first place)? Is it definitely snipping tool and not the snip&sketch replacement? The latter leaves a persistent notification in the action center that you can click on to bring it back up, so snip&sketch definitely stores it temporarily.

Note that newer versions of uBlock Origin want you to double-tap the Control key to get the green rectangles to show up since people were confused and thought they needed to use green when they only needed to use gray. This is one of the times when you would want to use green instead of gray.

Flipperwaldt posted:I didn't know that. I also couldn't really think of a situation where I'd use gray, but after dipping into the wiki I think it's because I use uMatrix alongside it and the only time I have to interact with the uBlock advanced mode is exactly when it's static filters breaking a website. Green means it will override all of the network filters, which is generally not something people want to do. They were clicking it when they meant to just no-op a more strict advanced blocking rule, like if they had blocked third-party content. Even so, if a network filter is causing an issue it's usually better to just write a specific whitelist filter rule for the necessary content than to force-allow all the other junk from that domain.

Given my password is randomly generated by 1Password to be 16+ characters/symbols there's no way someone has guessed said password. Do you have some old device or app that isn't getting the changed password but is repeatedly trying to connect to your account with stored credentials?
