Dream-Quest For Unknown Kadath. It's long, I personally think it's better than Call, and it sets you up for The Silver Key -> Through the Gates of the Silver Key.

You might also check out The Strange Case of Charles Dexter Ward (I wasn't that impressed with it but YMMV) or At The Mountains of Madness (technically a mythos story but written in a rather different fashion than most of them.)

Someone's already mentioned Clive Barker, which would have been my response, so instead I'll say that if you want old-school horror in the same vein as Poe or Lovecraft you should check out Arthur Machen.

What's a good book on introductory music theory? Assume that I have no previous knowledge of it whatsoever.

EDIT: For purposes of evaluating and appreciating music, not composing. If that makes any signficant difference.
