how can we not talk about family
when family's all that we got?
What are some good contemporary collections of short stories of Science Fiction? I've been burning through collections of guys like Dick, Lem, and Asimov, which I love, but I'd like to see where the general tone is nowadays as everything I've been reading lately is characterized by the Cold War, fears of nuclear accidents, civil rights struggles, and robots controlling society.

Can anyone recommend a book about Napoleon that focuses on his political/social/cultural impact as much as the wars? Most of the books I've flipped through so far are entirely war-focused or entirely Egypt-focused. If it's not a chore to read prose-wise, that'd be swell, too.

Allow me to recommend Charles Esdaile's Napoleon's Wars. I've described this book before as the inverse of a military history: there is little text spent on the wars themselves, but much spend on putting the wars into the context of the times. This is essentially a political history of Napoleon's time (as opposed to a military history), so if you're looking for a more biographical perspective you should look elsewhere.

Brilliant, this is exactly the kind of book I was looking for.

I'd like a recommendation of a sci-fi book or series with a relatively optimistic/positive/uplifting outlook. it doesn't have to be all rainbows and sunshine but I'm kind of burnt out on misanthropic, pessimistic, debbie downer type poo poo. some stuff I'd consider to fit this bill is the Jean Le Flambeur trilogy, the Culture and Radch books, most Stanislaw Lem short stories, The Girl With All The Gifts, even something fantasy-tilted like the Broken Earth jawns.
