Thanks a ton for the advice re: decals - that's very helpful.

This might be a more difficult question but does anyone have any idea where I might be able to buy 1:24/25 scale model car kits either in the UK or that will ship to the UK of 1935-1955 era cars, particularly American ones?

This is the sort of thing I'd like to build, but it seems AMT isn't around any more and while there are some for sale on ebay, not many will ship to the UK. I know Trumpeter have a few slightly older car kits but most manufacturers seem to be focusing on more modern vehicles.

AMT is still around or back really as Round 2. Not a huge selection. They've got an online shop, but I'm sure if you ask they'd be happy to tell you who carries them in the UK. You might also want to look for Lindberg, they seem to have several classic cars.

I'm hoping someone here could help me out with my search, but I'm looking for a very specific wheel for model cars, BBS RS (image below). I need to find wheels just under an inch in diameter, I think 1/24 scale. colour doesn't mater, I can paint it, but the size is important. If you'd know where I could find them or even somewhere I could call/email about it I would really appreciate it. I've searched around and haven't been able to find anything even similar.

Try Hobby Link Japan, there's a search function on the left hand side of the front page that's will get you to wheels and tires. here's a search for 1/24th scale wheel sets, seems there are some BBS wheels in there.

Does anyone still make Robotech models? I've been looking on Amazon and eBay and basically don't know what I'm looking at. I was hoping to stay under $30 and buy it from someone in the US.

Depends on what you mean by Robotech. The TV show was based off of 3 different series. The most popular was Macross and those kits usually go into and out of production and can probably be found in the US see this for kits in Japan- http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/693/0/1 . The second series was Southern Cross and kits were available of the armor but not right now. Third TV series was Mospeada and there are some things available - http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/list/693/0/1 (These were also the Monogram Go-Bot kits from the 80's)

The Revell models were from Macross - see above, Orguss - http://www.1999.co.jp/search_e.asp?Typ1_c=109&scope=0&scope2=0&itkey=orguss and Dougram - http://www.1999.co.jp/search_e.asp?Typ1_c=109&scope=0&scope2=0&itkey=dougram. Good luck on the Orguss and Dougram stuff that's been out of production for years

Have you tried the Gunpla thread, they may know some good sources - http://forums.somethingawful.com/showthread.php?threadid=3472857&userid=0&perpage=40&pagenumber=1

On another topic, if you have a Target near by, they have a gift card with a snap together bi plane - http://www.target.com/p/snap-apart-plane-gift-card/-/A-14321643#prodSlot=medium_1_5 It builds up pretty nice.

Does anyone make any good Thunderbirds sets? The DeAgonstini Thunderbird 2 set is really tempting me but it works out at just under £1000.

Most of what’s available from Aoshima are the old Imai molds that have been around since the 60’s. The TB 2s look pretty accurate when built but usually include a lot of play features in them, shooting missles, wheels in the pods , moving hatches etc. I built the Super Big TB2 years ago and converting the toy features was a pain.

Hobby Search Japan has a bunch of kits listed here
http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/m/list/713/0/1

And the descriptions usually include pics of the completed model, sprues, and instructions, so you can see what you’re getting into.

FYI I think the DeAgonstini is based off this limited edition Takara toy https://www.ebay.com/itm/Takara-Thu...-4AAOSwhzRaijp9

I really was going for "easy", as in, no specific product or anything. Something quick and and easy for an okay but not necessarily amazing result.

Flat surface, plastic or maybe even poster board spray it a concrete grey color and then splatter it with some washes that look like oil or fluids. Then make a grid pattern with thick black paint maybe cheap poster paint for the expansion joints on a runway. Make the joints at angle to the sides for some visual difference.

Companies do make something like it https://www.bnamodelworld.com/model-planes-tarmac-display-base-j-s-work-js-ppa3067?zenid=30773db7382ccd35ded0291846b1902c

I'm not sure why all the speckling is there. I washed the model in warm, soapy water with a bit of vinegar right out of the box, but I did let it sit a day or two before I started painting. Maybe I should scrub it with a toothbrush while washing instead of rubbing with my fingers next time. Overall it looks like crap by comparison to most, but I'm happy with it so far.
And also because this will probably cause a meltdown in the LEGO thread:

That's a starting coat of dark grey Rustoleum paint+primer, after a few days I'm going to add some accenting and see how it ends up.

Anyone use mineral spirits for enamel thinning? From what I've read it should work fine (assuming good ventilation) but I tried it last night with some Testor's black at a 3:1 paint:spirits ratio and I barely got to dip my brush three times before the pool of paint was dried.

Star Destroyer looks really nice, and I'd like to see more of it. The mix of LEGO and MegaBloks is very jarring though.

The ejector pin marks on the plate studs just jump out at me, and scream MegaBloks. Im not that familiar with Lepin and don't have many, so Mega was my go to.
Looks really nice though.

Does anyone know if there any scale model guns out there? I'm looking for something that needs assembly and painting. The only ones I've been able to find are already assembled.

Here's a terrible scalemates search that has a bunch - https://www.scalemates.com/search.php?fkSECTION%5B%5D=All&q=*+1%3A1.
Most look way old and way out of print.

I had this LS Walther Model 9 at some point in the 80's https://www.scalemates.com/kits/ls-p503-600-walther-model-9--1317665. It was supposedly fully working, if you could get it to stay together.

I realized after uploading that I didn't put the tracks up, oh well. I'll post that up next time. It should be noted that as mentioned before, this will be a fully functional rc tank. Complete with an infrared on the barrel for shooting a target you get and a camera for a gunner's view. Another note is that the upper front plate for the hull is not bolted to that metal frame there currently. I just have it there as I've played enough WoT to identify where it should be mounted (in real life, the twin holes would be the radiator fans while the larger hole in the middle is the turret ring). It seems so complete because I'm paying for the 12 month subscription. So I'm already a fourth of the way done on the model.

You mentioning putting together RC Leopard tracks, caused flashbacks of the old Tamiya 1/16 scale Leopard tracks. I hope assembling Agoras is a little easier than this:

Month 4 for the agora models leopard 2a6 done.

I have to be careful of the time I put together the parts due to the tracks requiring a hammer for assembly which isn't a good idea to wield late at night in an apartment. If you look in the lower right corner, you can see the linkage parts that need to be assembled together for making the tracks. Those are currently spares that I suspect will come back to being needed on assembling the last pads together for a full loop. There are three of each for every pack.

Need to catch up on the enterprise d next though. I'm already 2 months behind with it. For some reason, I'm more excited for the leopard though. I guess because it'll be an rc vehicle when it is done instead of a light up display like the enterprise.

Those tracks look good. If you're going to run it, I suggest putting some super glue on the outside of the track pieces you hammer on, oval piece with the 2 holes. I had to do that on my Tamiya tracks to keep those pieces on. Or maybe do the maiden run in doors on carpet where you can find them if they fly off? Think I lost all but a few of my spares before I did that. That was 40 years ago, so maybe the tech is better.
