I'm ready to make the switch from Reason to Ableton. But one thing that discourages me every time I attempted to do this was the drastically different workflow. I never use any of the step sequencers or patterns in reason, which I am assuming is a major thing in Ableton. Also in reason, I would just use the pencil tool, draw out a measure in the sequencer, double click that, and pencil in each note. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this in Ableton. This is probably the silliest of silly questions.

Where can I get more sounds for my drum racks in ableton? Preferably free, but I don't mind shelling out a bit of cash.

How do I drag an effect onto just one specific track on my drum rack? I can't for the life of me figure this out.

Mandals posted:I'm playing with this literally right now, too. I think you can drag the effect onto the slice you want in the little drum grid at the bottom of the screen. I tried that, but it plays the effect for all the tracks in my drum rack still.

RivensBitch posted:I'm running VMWARE with spaces, so I have win7 64bit running on one space with winxp running in another, and then Ableton running in leopard and it works pretty smooth. Touchpad works fine in all of them. poo poo, did you add more RAM or something? My macbook pro can't even handle a Windows XP Vmware and Snow Leopard OS by itself, let alone Live.

Super obvious ableton question that I can't figure out: So I export a song from Reason to a wav. I then drag the wav file into an audio clip in Ableton. The original tempo is 108, I set ableton's tempo to 108 as well. But when I play it back in ableton, it sounds super sped up and pitched up. Help!

So I have an audio clip. Why is it that when I transpose it down and then I do "slice to new midi track", the new midi drum rack keeps the original pitch? How do I change it so that the new midi track will preserve the pitch that I shifted it to?

I plan on making a live set in Ableton. But the problem is, a lot of my songs are sequenced in Reason. I tried doing the tedious task of exporting each different loop in Reason that I have as a .wav and importing that into Ableton. However, this method is not perfect because it cuts the audio right off at the end of the loop (no room for reverb tails, delay, etc so it sounds choppy). What should I do???? I want to jam out in the almighty clip view to my songs damnit

I cannot for the life of me figure this sound/effect here: http://byebyeblackbird.bandcamp.com/ Liste to the kick drum, that little kick fluctuation that happens every 5 seconds throughout the whole song. How do I go about achieving something like this? I was thinking about something sidechained to the kick but I have no idea.

Popcorn posted:Three stupid questions about Live. 1. Ctrl+1 or Command+1 will make your grid smaller (up to 1/2056 or something ridiculous like that) 2. Ctrl+4 or Command+4 will turn on/off snap to grid. 3. Can't help you with this one, sorry man

Is there a way to make it so that when I press a pad on my midi controller, it turns a device on but right when I let go of the pad, the device turns off? Please tell me there's a way without using a MIDI translator.

Jirolico posted:I couldn't find the answer online, so here goes. not really sure what you're asking, but you can make a single midi track and stick a drum rack on that so then you wouldn't have to use a new track for each individual drum sound. it'll make your life a lot easier.
