I guess this is the thread to discuss the new He Is Legend record, "It Hates You" - which fuckin' kicks rear end. The intro riff on "That's Nasty" is so mean, bordering on drone-ish.

I See Stars. 3D has been described by some as a better version of Attack Attack!. I think they're fairly different, but still worth checking out

In Fear and Faith. it's like attack attack!, but with more structured songwriting and lyrics about pirates. hearing the singer scream PIIIIRATES LIFE FOR ME over a sick breakdown made me a convert.

hell, just look through Rise Records and The Artery Foundation's roster until you find something you like.

Rise Records pretty much suck save for a few bands.

I recently heard the whole album and it is particularly earpleasuring when you listen to it as an album rather than individual songs. I was going to make a thread for the new album, but there probably wouldn't be enough fans here.

Gonna check this out later - he has an awesome voice and I should probably get Emarosas's new CD.

Just realized today that I hadn't seen this band mentioned yet. I dunno how popular they are, but they've headlined a few tours that came through here recently and their shows are always sick. A lot of their music is really catchy, especially the clean vocals, which is also fun because they do them well without making their music too poppy.

Vanna
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HH3ip068JgM&feature=related (Dead Language for a Dying Lady)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-4r6U0Ohzo (She's a Real Battle Axe)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxJiJ8Ok7Mc (I Am The Wind, You Are The Feather)

They are the weirdest looking people I have ever seen in my life. The lead singer can't be more than 4 feet tall (slight exaggeration, but he is a tiny guy) and they always have the craziest facial hair. Last time I saw them, they all grew out wild mustaches. They're a trip hahaha.

I had only heard one song from their first EP which was absolutely horrible, but then I listened to "Safe to Say" from their latest CD on some sampler, and that is actually a really solid song. I really like that the screamer isn't shrieking like a lot of the other bands in this genre (Sky Eats Airplane, to name one), but goes down in a deeper vocal register (dunno if that's what you wanna call it, but whatever).

Those chromatic riffs really make Converge stand out, though, if you ask me. Ballou has this penchant for atonality and dissonance that just make it erupt in my ears. I wouldn't feel as much of an impact otherwise. You're right, though. The riffs do start to get a bit stale on their new album. I wasn't sure if it was just from listening to the band for so much over the past seven years. I do have to disagree about the band part. I think the guests make it sound like the band is even more comfortable and confident than usual. I'd even say this is their most confident album yet.

On another note, I'm never sure what thread Coalesce belongs in, but I'm still obsessed with OX and I really don't think I've found a release this year that can touch it. Converge has the only heavy album that tries to threaten its position for me. (It probably ties it, but I don't want to sound like your typical Converge fanfag. :v:)

Could you explain all this technical mumbo jumbo to a guy who just think the new record is awesome? What should I be listening for?

Musically, HORSE the Band is a polarizing act in most online metalcore communities, and it seems this one is no exception. However, even people who don't dig keyboard breakdowns can usually respect that these are funny dudes who don't mind laughing at themselves and bantering with their hecklers. They've definitely had some unique adventures, too, most notably booking their own sparingly promoted and largely uncompensated 45-country tour in 2008.
