I just listened to the new Culling The Weak - Self-titled. I've never even heard of these guys, but man their poo poo slays. It's over an hour long too and it's a very solid record. There's so many good riffs and the solos are actually pretty kickass on some of the songs. For a deathcore album, I'm impressed.

Check the myspace and listen to Lead Me Not Into Damnation and Weight Of The World.

I thought the new Killswitch Album was really generic. While there were some good songs, there were also some terrible songs, like the single Starting Over. Howard sounds better than ever though, but man do his lyrics suck rear end on this one. They seem to be not progressing at all and by doing so their music is becoming worse. I'm a huge fan of these guys too, I joined the Fan Club to meet them. Cool dudes btw.

Darkest Hour - Undoing Ruin is the metalcore magnum opus, if you ask me. Produced by Devin Townsend, to top it all off!

This is my favorite album of the year so far. But I'm a bit biased since I love this band to death. The Tides has one of the coolest loving solos I've ever heard.

Also, has anyone heard the new August Burns Red album? Talk about a band realizing it's potential! They knocked it out of the park with this album. They upped their songwriting and their songs are more varied than their previous release.

Ha, I knew that! :haw: Doomsayer has an amazing solo as well, it's so catchy. The Tides has a "Kris Norris" feel to it, even though he didn't write it. That's probably why I like it so much.

YOUR MOUTH IS LIKE A GRENADE

That song is great, poo poo..every song is fantastic, but my favorite song is probably Indonesia. The clean sung part with Tommy Rogers is awesome.

There were quite a few good releases this month.

The Crimson Armada - Guardians - This is their debut album on metal blade. Again, another solid deathcore release..It's fast as poo poo and the riffs are insanely catchy. The vocalist is some arab dude, but he kills. He kinda sounds like Trevor from TBDM. Go listen!

Arsonists Get All The Girls - Portals - I was never really a huge fan of these guys, but this is one experimental, heavy-as-gently caress album. Check out the song My Cup Half's Empty to get an idea. I love the ending. EDIT: One thing i didn't like about this album was the hidden track. What a stupid idea that was.

After the Burial
This is currently one of my favorite bands (right behind PWD of course :haw:). I'm terrible with classifying bands, but if I had to take a guess I'd say they're a sort of mathcore/metalcore hybrid. I don't particularly care for their latest CD Rareform, but Forgiving a Future Self has some amazing songs on it (Isolation Theory would give you a general idea of the album, not to mention it's brutal as hell). Here's a link - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdlkfVOI71Q The quality isn't amazing, but I guess it could have been worse. Also, the song "Fingers like Daggers" off the same album is pretty drat good as well.

They rerecorded their latest release, Rareform, with a new vocalist. I don't know what the scheduled release is on it, but you can find it somewhere since it's leaked. New vox sound way better.

Eh, I was really disappointed in their new album. While Exist is a good song, I feel that most of the songs on that album are poor. I've only listened to it twice, but it seems like every song songs nearly identical, plus the song lengths are extremely short. You can't even get into a song because it changes every five seconds and never repeats itself.

I really don't get the self-hate for metalcore here. Obviously we're all in this thread to talk about it and yet we have people saying "99% of the music discussed here is horrible".

I think it's ludicrous that talking about metalcore can get you tossed out of the 'proper' metal thread. Take, for example, the first track off the new Architects album. That first riff sounds a lot like Meshuggah and yet one of these bands is 'acceptable' and the other one isn't.

Personally I think black metal all sounds pretty much the same and would happily toss that out of the metal thread so why is it that metalcore is being annexed? Maybe someone with a bit more metal knowledge can enlighten me?

Because metalcore is considered mainstream. It's not cool to like music that trendy scene kids listen to. The metal elitists think it's generic and boring to listen to. Whereas if you listen to bands like Bolt Thrower and Destroyer 666, you're welcomed in the online metal world.

Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz and former Killswitch Engage vocalist Jesse Leach are re-teaming for Times of Grace, a brand new band that finds the duo taking a creative left turn, boldly exploring new musical terrain, while fearlessly digging deep into the recesses of their musical synergy. It has yielded a provocative, heavy-yet-melodic result, one that helped each of them overcome personal struggles and emerge from the darkness, more empowered than ever.

While fans will no doubt be thrilled at the concept of the duo reuniting, Times of Grace is not interested in fashioning "Alive Or Just Breathing Part II". It's an entirely new project and represents a different musical path for both Adam D. and Leach! It is an album of cleansing and catharsis for each of them, where internal demons were exorcised and set to music that's as aggressive as it is melodic. The pair is currently in the studio working on its debut, "The Hymn Of A Broken Man", which is due out November 9 through Roadrunner Records.

Are you kidding me? This is going to be EPIC.

Also, the new All That Remains song sounded awesome when I heard it on Sirius. It sounds like their old stuff for sure, but I'm positive they'll have radio friendly songs too. They're releasing it tomorrow for the masses on their website.
