Destrage always border on being a little too zany for me but that is a good-rear end track.

I'm not sure if these dudes were ever posted in here, they're maaaybe a better fit for the other punk thread but this whole album is super hype and dammit that breakdown hits harder than any of the Lorna-core bands floating around these days

New single from Architects with an album out in Oct. I didn't hate last year's album (certainly didn't love it either, but it had some tracks/moments that were okay), but this track is hard for even me to defend. I did like the lead single, when we were young, so I'm not giving up on the album entirely, but I can already feel myself skipping this new one more often than not

I'm a big FTTWTE apologist but yeah I'm not feeling this. I liked When We Were Young pretty well but this really does just feel like a b-side from the last album.

They're different enough that comparisons don't make a lot of sense, but I do think Planet of Ice is stronger than anything Botch put out. I'm also a weirdo that slightly prefers the christcore scene kid version of Botch to the real thing though:

I wish I liked Suicide Silence’s music more, I’ve been listening to some of Garza’s podcast and he seems like a cool guy. That track is solid, sounds like kind of a return to form for them, I just don’t have a big attention span for that style of deathcore.

I seriously can't get enough of the new Daoboys. This is the most excited I've been about a core release for a long time, it feels like they fully realized the potential they showed on Die on Mars. It's got that blend of unpredictable chaos, big hooks, and substantive songwriting that made me fall in love with Miss Machine as an idiot teenager, but with its own identity that doesn't just sound like Great Value Dillinger.

I used to be all for WACKY MONKEYCHEESE Mr. Bungle-core but it's mostly just grating now. It's kinda put a damper on, like, half of BTBAM's discography that I used to love unreservedly. Daoboys and spazzy mathcore in general don't really trigger that reaction for me though

Counterparts is getting some totally deserved attention (Eulogy... loving rips) but I'm also pretty impressed with the new Lamb of God. This is the best they've sounded since the Ashes/Sacrament days. Randy actually sounds pissed again and there's a bit of hardcore edge throughout that's been missing for the last decade.

Song’s solid, a touch too long and meandering but I dig it overall. Vocals are an acquired taste but I don’t think they’re that out there, especially compared to like some of the sad incel noises on your average DSBM record or whatever. Mostly just reminds me of Kaonashi (who own)

Seriously, what an absolute rear end-beater of a song. Greg is such a perfect fit. Those too-good-to-be-true supergroup-sounding lineups usually end up disappointing, but this feels completely natural and exactly as good as it looks on paper. Just wild how a bunch of dudes 20+ years into their careers are still putting out music that sounds this aggressive and inspired.

The "KNOCKED LOOSE MOTHERFUCKER" is dumb as poo poo and I love it. More bands need to just yell their name before a breakdown. Even better, more bands need to recruit Bryan to pop in with a hype man guest spot. Imagine how much better all the /r/metalcore pet bands would be if Bryan yelled "SILENT PLANET" every few minutes like he was tagging a DatPiff mixtape in 2009.

Speaking of ignorant poo poo, Sunami dropped a full length hell yeah

Absolutely horrible news. Can't say I ever followed the band particularly closely but I've been digging through some of Ryan's YT videos and he seemed like such a genuinely nice (and insanely talented) person.

also what camera do you use? i recently got a sony a7iii that i barely use bc im a single, childless adult with too much disposable income. i would love to bring it to shows and get cool shots if it's capable of that.

I shoot with an a7III and it's definitely capable. Get a reasonably fast lens and shoot raw, you can crank the ISO surprisingly high and still get usable shots. I haven't done show photography with mine but wouldn't hesitate.

Video's a different beast than photo and tbh I'm bumping up against limitations there, but for reference about 30% of this footage is from my a7III + Tamron 28-75 2.8 (the rest is my buddy's a7SIII + Sigma 24-70 2.8)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB47qZKBoow

This one is very much not -core but the performance lighting wasn't much different than typical show lighting and it's about 50/50 between my a7III and the a7S

On-topic: I'm real happy with Better Lovers so far. I understand why some people are lukewarm on them, but it all works really well for me and feels like more than just ETID with Greg on vocals (even though I would've been totally fine with that). There's a lot of ETID dna there obviously, but the melodic sections especially have a different, more post-hardcore feel to them that I dig. Super excited to see where they go, Greg's miles behind Keith as a lyricist (who isn't?) but he's way more versatile and accessible as a vocalist and I could see them going some interesting places.

I'm sure everyone here has listened to this already but the track owns

Band keeps getting better.

Everyone has probably seen this already but Many Eyes put out a video for Revelation
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVSi24Pb-ic

Video is fine. Song has grown on me but the music still sounds like a royalty-free rock and metal track from the YouTube Audio Library.

I've mostly ignored this band since Disgusting but I've been really liking the new Beartooth. It's unapologetically poppy in a way that works surprisingly well, but without turning into a boring low-energy slog. Plus, Caleb just writes some drat good hooks. Definitely won't work for everyone but I kinda love it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Nmyp8uwyrs

I dig it but doubt it'll change anyone's opinions. It does feel a little more like its own thing and less "ETID + Greg," especially in the chorus. Still can't wait to catch them live.

They're a miracle. This wasn't as immediate as anything on the EP but it may be better. No idea what it's like behind the scenes of course but Greg seems to be meshing so well with their writing style.

I really dig it actually. Feels very 90s/2000s alt rock in a way that's distinct from The Damned Things or any of ETID's softer tracks, and Keith sounds fantastic. It may be his best clean singing performance, especially during the bridge. I wouldn't be mad if the full album leans more in this direction.

Yeah that Upon Stone rules. "In Flames worship" made me expect the usual Clayman/Colony-era and there's definitely a little of that feel but it mostly sounds closer to Lunar Strain which was a nice surprise. I'm here for a 90s Gothenburg melodeath revival.

Even less -core than Upon Stone but this was another great melodeath release from last year with huge Jester Race vibes

I think it's their best since Deliver Us. Great mix of short punchy hardcore-tinged tracks and more dynamic grandiose songwriting, and it all sounds super inspired. The closer and Mausoleum are both up there with the best things they've ever written.

I actually love the new TGI but it's real hard to share my enthusiasm because any description results in some of the bleakest sentences ever written. It's half "Breaking Benjamin covering a GaryVee video" and half "hey ChatGPT, write a Hatebreed song in the style of Wage War" but their songwriting just works for me in a way that none of the other bands who sound exactly the same do.

Late 30s here and I also have a debilitating need for constant new music. I wouldn't say my tastes have solidified at any certain point - I've always listened to a wide range of stuff and will spend a couple weeks or months diving down whatever rabbit hole makes sense at the time (country, synthwave, jazz, prog, rap, ambient poo poo, post rock, stupidass jrpg sountracks, etc) with heavy music in general acting as a home base. I've shifted slightly from being a metal elitist in high school to preferring more alternative and hardcore-leaning stuff I guess but idk, music is good and cool and ~magical~ and has too much to offer to get stuck listening to the same 3 albums forever.
