this is pretty solid. def filling that darkest hour melodeath core void not that this matters whatsoever, but i hate their logo. trying to make it symmetrical forced the designer to turn the letters in "upon" into the worst looking shapes i've ever seen

some of my buddies from way back in the day who were in a local band decided to pick things back up and make a new ep and are playing a few shows again for the first time in idk like 15 years or something. they just dropped a video and it's great to see them back at it. some of you here might dig it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42JMTnqmc4A

i had tickets to see veil of maya play last night and i didn't bother going. didn't help that they were the only band on the lineup i cared about, and they're touring off their most recent album which i listened to in its totality maybe one single time. checking setlist.fm helps to either make or break how bummed i am about missing a show. looks like they played mostly songs off the new album, but i am bummed it seems like they played "it's not safe to swim today" which is a banger, plus some older jams in the back half of the set. ahhh well i'll catch them on the next djent tour or whatever lol

yeah i meant vamachara is the only active band from that last batch. callous daoboys are great but i feel like they're shifting away from the sound that i fell in love with on their die on mars album into more singy experimental stuff that i don't vibe with. speaking of daoboys, old dillinger, and deadguy - they're all playing together in brooklyn in june which i have a ticket for. stoked to see dillinger play calculating infinity aka their only good album

surprise announcement of knocked loose playing at a record store in the valley here in LA. tickets went on sale yesterday at noon and i was able to snag 2 tickets for me and a homie. the comments on the instagram post are flooded with people who said they refreshed the page right at noon and it was already telling them it was sold out. i got lucky. i also don't even really give a poo poo about them but i think it'll be sick to see them play a tiny venue. i'm mostly stoked to see beyond repair play old throwdown songs.

here's the music video if you have no idea who poppy is and want a visual to go along with the music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAuuVY__KQ0 here's a few more from poppy who is fine/decent as a solo pop/metal type artist who does some pretty interesting things in her weird little corner of the metal genre. it's kinda cringe nu metal stuff but it's actually not half bad just bc it leans into itself so hard. she's signed to sumerian, believe it or not. same label as slaughter to prevail, btbam, born of osiris, and veil of maya. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gmswmbosYo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ev_vPbqUlZs she also did a really faithful cover of tATu's "all the things she said" which is a banger https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTvIG6gHMh0

enjoy your youth while it lasts, whippersnappers! also, i highly recommend checking out the straight up metal thread on fridays. Nazzadan does the dark lord's work every single week updating the thread with about a dozen and a half bandcamp links of all different kinds of metal, even core stuff, which that thread is usually somewhat repellent to. if you like core, there's a high chance you'll like some dm or thrash or crossover or the best genre ever: slam even if nothing is your cup of tea, it opens you up to just random new poo poo and gives you a little taste of what's out there as for music taste changing as you age and stuff, in the last ~5 years, i def started broadening my horizons. i like synthwave, i like some neofunk, and in just the last like two years i started listening to more ambient stuff which def makes me feel like i'm hitting mid-life crisis levels of art appreciation. but then just last week i found out about this band mask who are loving sick and reminds me while i'll never stop loving idiot breakdown music https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ka_U1d8zWLk
