Is it noticeable that: That there's a bardbwire fence that's out of focus? The owl was maybe 5 feet from the fence, I was shooting from the other side of the road/ditch.

I need to hit up a new park, all I ever see are Yellow Warblers, Song Sparrows, and American Goldfinch. Tried going yesterday in the evening instead of in the morning like I have been the past week, no change, but happy with these two shots

On Saturday I saw a Ruby-Throated Hummingbird in my buddy's backyard and on Monday people were photographing some of them in a nearby park that I like to go to. Went there yesterday afternoon, couldn't find any, but did find 3 Great Horned Owls (was only able to photograph 2)

The Blue Jay in the background chased the two out of the woods through a path clearing I was in and they flew by me within like 15 feet which was loving incredible

I just started taking bird photos this year and it has definitely been fun to learn about nature and photography at the same time. Thinking about getting a sony 200-600mm next year and spending even more time in the woods.

I actually entered this exact photo a few years ago and it went nowhere. Over the past two or three years I've seen some other sage-grouse photos make the top cut. Given the new-ish category of "Female Bird" thought I'd give it another shot although I was just hoping maybe to make the top 100. Definitely a nice surprise! I'm not sure what the lesson is but I guess keep trying if you have a photo you really like.

Got a Nikon Z6ii yesterday, just using my old 70-300 until I can buy a 200-500 (my old Tamron 150-600 G1's AF and VC don't work through the FTZ II adapter)

Where are you? I could go out and shoot those four birds in 10 minutes in my yard. They're my most common yard birds (nuthatches are about my favorite birds, they're so drat social). The woodpecker can go gently caress itself. Having a wood sided house will push you to hate them.

edit: Read my comment when it posted, and realized it sounded dismissive. I checked your flickr and saw Edmonton? So far away (Denver area), but such similar geography and bird ranges.

Yeah, I'm up in Edmonton. I was hoping to luck out with there being Waxwings or Grosbeaks migrating into the area. These are all common year-round birds up here.

There's been some sightings of Cedar Waxwings at a park in town, so spent 3 hours in -17 air temp with a windchill closing in on -30 looking for them. Only found Bohemian Waxwings and couldnt get any decent shots. There were however at least 100 robins at the park which seemed quite odd for this time of year

they're loving everywhere up here in the Greater Toronto Area.
Usually one or two of them get pretty ornery and attack people and draw a couple news articles every year

I'm over in Edmonton and they're all over the place, and in suburban neighbourhoods because developers love to build man-made ponds. I'm always looking for Yellow-headed Blackbirds, but the Red-winged outnumber them by like 100:1 around here
