Sorry LASIK thread, this isn't specifically about LASIK. Hope to get it done soon but not just yet. :)

Wasn't there an glasses / contact thread that an optometrist maintained? I have some contact questions and just spent 20 minutes or so looking for the thread and couldn't find it. Anyone know?

Glad to hear I'm not crazy. I'm having a hell of a time finding it.

Oh well, guess I'm just going to have to get LASIK instead! :v:

I got LASIK about a month ago and it has been unbelievable. My prescription wasn't that bad other than one eye having a bit of an astigmatism. I had it done late Friday afternoon, slept until early Saturday morning, and while it took an hour or two for my eyes to calm down and adjust, I could see really well less than 24 hours after the surgery. Was very sensitive to light but could use a computer. The Monday after I went to my follow-up and had 20/10 vision.

A month later my eyes are pretty well healed up. Not super dry but I try to put in drops once an hour or two and use the gel drops before I go to bed and right when I wake up. I think it's honestly taken my brain longer to adjust than it has taken my eyes to adjust. I make sure to keep sunglasses handy now because sun still seems pretty bright.

The procedure and the recovery were both a breeze. I highly recommend anyone who possible can get LASIK.

I had Lasik about 5 weeks ago and kept having dreams/thoughts of getting papercuts in my eyes, so I think you're doing pretty good.

Hi Lasik thread. I got "Custom Wavefront Lasik" in both eyes about 5 months ago (early July) and I am still having to use my eyedrops fairly heavily. Probably a good 10 times a day. I do live in dry climate and I do spend a lot of my time on the computer, which I know will both contribute to eye dryness. How long did it take you before you stopped needing eye drops regularly?

I generally still use the Blink Tears preservative free since I've been using them so often. If I'm out and about I'll use a normal eyedrop.

10 times a day seems like a hell of a lot, maybe talk to your optometrist?

Hmm... seems like that might be in order!

I'm wondering if part of it is just having one of those eyedroppers open and on my desk. I wonder if I'm almost feeling obligated to use it. I think I'm going to consciously try using them less to see if it is something mental, at least until I can get back from the holidays and get in to see my optometrist.

Just in case anyone is curious, on my "still using too many eye drops" issue, I was able to reduce the amount of eye drops I was using down to 2-3 times per day. I think it was the fact that I had the non-preservative drops sitting in front of me pretty much all day and knowing that they needed to be used. I think I was using them too much and my eyes weren't making enough tears.

I definitely looked better in glasses, which is a shame. Need all the help I can get.

Also, isn't it a bad idea to wear contacts when sleeping? Everything I've ever heard says it's bad, even for contacts that "breathe."

Today is the laser day! I will report back later.

Good luck and godspeed. One of the best things I've ever done. I shouldn't have waited so long.

Hm, weird, I woke up this morning with some slight blurriness in my right eye. Was crisp and 20/20 when I went to sleep.

Using some eyedrops frequently, but still some blur.

I'm going into the office tomorrow to have the doctor take a look just in case, but is this sort of fluctuation normal with healing?

I had a similar result. Your eyes are going to dry out and inflame a bit while you're sleeping. You have an anti-inflammatory drop with all the other drops you're supposed to be using, right? Your doctor should have also given you a mask that will help you not rub your eyes in your sleep. That mask will also help your eyes dry out less, especially if you have a ceiling fan on in your bedroom. There's also a gel type drop that is thicker and good before bed.

A year later and I'll still wake up with super dry eyes, but otherwise my vision is fine and I'm down to drops before bed and drops when I wake up.

That is the same schedule I was on, or very similar, and I had the same fluctuations early on. It took me a few months until I could wake up and not have my vision be a little blurry. It sounds like you're on the right track and as long as the doctor says you're okay, nothing you've described sounds different from my experience. I think it's normal to be a little worried when it comes to your vision. Plus, it's a little odd to have it fluctuate during the day. You'll be just fine with a bit of time and healing.

Only really during the first month or two while things are healing. After that, my vision only fluctuates with normal stuff like if my eyes are particularly dry (I live in a very dry area), slept face down, eyes are tired from staring at a computer screen all day, etc.

For me it was fairly quick between consult and operation. I think a few weeks? I have heard from others that depending on the place or your eyes they may want to see you again after a while, just to make sure your eyes are stable. But my eyes were fairly simple, so I don't think I needed that. I think there's still some people who would prefer to go to a really well known eye doctor or vision specialist that isn't just a lasik place. To me, it seems like the technology has advanced enough that I was comfortable going to a place that just does lasik and does like ~50 procedures a day. It seemed to me that the machines did pretty much all of the work.
