I think it's strange that the radio stations can get enough from advertising to cover their royalty fees, but Spotify can't. When in theory the targeted ads should be much more valuable to the advertiser than the broadcast ones. Sadly I don't think Spotify will be able to grow large enough to start dictating to the record labels a la iTunes because of the significant label part ownership that gives them a measure of control.
