Oh, yes, I've seen Romancing the Stone. I have also seen The Phantom with Billy Zane who's there to chew bubblegum and SLAM EVIL.

Edit: I've also seen Master and Commander, the first two Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser, both Zorro movies with Antonio Banderas, both of the Richard Lester Musketeers movies and as many Pirates of the Caribbean movies as I particularly care to.

I would like to request recommendations for adventure movies. Movies in the vein I'm looking for which I've enjoyed include: the Indiana Jones movies and television series; Sky Captain (flawed but entertaining); The Man Who Would Be King; The Wind and the Lion; The African Queen; Spielberg and Jackson's Tintin movie; and Tales of the Gold Monkey (another television series), to name a few examples.

Movies that provided the DNA for Indiana Jones, really, or which did a good job of replicating it. I would be happy to accept film serials if you can tell me where I can find them.

This page seems to be exactly what you're looking for, the subpages have almost every film that's been mentioned in repliess here

Have you seen The Maltese Falcon? I know the setting isn't quite right, but I always felt like Indy owed that film a debt for demonstrating how to effectively use a glaring, tangible macguffin.

It's based on a book that's best described as "airport fiction" and the author almost sued for how bad it was. Though that might be ego on the authors part, and more to do with box office than the actual film.

The scarlet letter was her passport into regions where other women dared not tread. Shame, Despair, Solitude! These had been her teachers, stern and wild ones, and they had made her strong, but taught her much amiss.

High Road to China (Tom Selleck), Magnificent Warriors (Michelle Yeoh), Dr. Lai and the Scripture with no Words (Jet Li), King Solomon's Mines (Stewart Granger version preferably, but the Richard Chamberlain one can be fun), Firewalker (it's not a good movie, but it is truly weird with Chuck Norris, Louis Gossett jr,, and John Rhys Davies)

I completely forgot about The Bridge on the Rive Kwai. That's a good one.

Wages of Fear and Sorcerer are both excellent, but a bit too small in scale for what I'm looking for.

Not a movie, but there was a miniseries made of Pillars of the Earth, it's about a lot of things but central around it is a town spending forty years building a Cathedral.

I guess I'll try my luck here. I am looking for a Halloween movie suitable for kids (not too scary obviously). Should be around 45 to 60 minutes (or maybe a shortfilm?). Preferably without words or little spoken dialogue. This is for a class with mentally disabled children with mostly low attention spans. Could be some kind of animation (putty, CGI, etc.). Perhaps something with ghosts. If there was something like this on youtube it would be even better, saving me money, but I take what is there.
Thank you!

Go to commercial!

So my girlfriend asked me to pick a horror movie for us to watch tonight. The problem is, every week I pick something and she ends up hating it. Her conditions for what make a "scary" movie are all over the place.

She loves Jeepers Creepers for the scene where the dumbass scarecrow man chases the two people with his truck.

She loves Dawn of the Dead, but only the new one and she despises any of the older classic ones (Night, Dawn, Day)

She loves High Tension (I've never seen it, so who knows)

She has a strange aversion to anything from before, like, 2000 (claims she loved watching American 80's movies when she was a girl in Russia, but hates them all now)

The problem is, whenever I show her things that include things she says she finds scary, she never likes them. I feel like I'm missing something. She hated Halloween, hated Friday the 13th 1, 2, and 3, refuses to even consider watching Return of the Living Dead.

Two movies we watched that she enjoyed were Lake Mungo (go figure. She said seeing the girl in the background of photos was scary) and It Follows.

To make things more complicated, I tend to not like many newer horror movies.

I'm hoping someone here has some kind of suggestion that works out.
