I work in public benefits, processing apps and interviews for food and cash benefits, and I have clients all the time who are embarrassed or ashamed to be applying for benefits and I always make sure to tell them that they've paid their taxes and these are their benefits to claim. Anti-communism/anti-socialism has broken a lot of brains.
