Seriously, about 15% of incomes (not the total number of dollars, just 15% of people filing a return) are above that threshold where FICA or whatever is not extracted for social security. That's a big pool of a lot of money that could address the shortfall indefinitely

You don’t get to pound the pavement with gumption, handing out copies of your resume. A decade ago when I got my first crappy waitress job they were already telling applicants to go home and apply on the website. Then wait for a call from the hiring manager. For the pleasure of getting three dollars per hour to get groped by and grovel at the feet of the people posting “kids these days do not understand hard work.” to maybe get a decent tip.

And yes, job-hunting/applying absolutely sucks these days. Not only have you got to jump through so many hoops, but you get the distinct impression that no-one's even watching you jump through them. My sympathies.

Haven't people definitively proven that this is exactly the case? Like, 99% of job applications get filtered through some algorithm to look for keywords that either will get you bumped up to "Talk to an actual person" or rejected immediately.

I did hire a dude years ago who walked to our office and slid his resume under the door. But he was also insanely over qualified for the position and looking for something less stressful

I put my experience right under the job title, and write a short paragraph summarizing all of the things that I've done that are what they're looking for right underneath that. It makes for an easily readable resume that hits all those key word searches. It sounds like a lot of work, but I basically write something longer and generic for the job title I'm looking for, then pare it down for the specific listing.
