publicblast posted:Didn't GWB grow the national debt by a huge margin, without a proposal? Please correct me if I'm wrong. Regardless of that, ask her if she remembers the national debt and a certain President named "Reagan." Wiki tells me that the national debt when he entered office was right around a trillion dollars, and when he left it was around three (unadjusted dollars; when adjusting it's roughly two to roughly four). THAT UNABASHED SOCIALIST COMMIE MUSLIM! Plus, let's point out that Obama is not, in fact, proposing to double the national debt. Not that these people give a poo poo (or could even comprehend) about the difference between debt and deficit, or real and adjusted dollars, or anything. I just think it's amusing what a bunch of giant pussies the right wingers have revealed themselves to be - they're "scared" of everything, they can't handle ideas of any kind (I guess because they're "scared" they might work and prove everything they've believed in to be utter nonsense), they don't want to talk to other countries because those other countries will obviously be so persuasive that they'll talk us into turning over the keys, etc.

Deteriorata posted:You could also point out to him that the Constitution mere describes the form and limitations of the government of the US, not its economic system. Conflating unfettered capitalism with anything in the Constitution is a rather horrendous fallacy. I love how people who say things like "we're a nation founded on freedom and low taxes - read the Constitution" have very obviously never read even a little bit of the Constitution. I try to point out to them that the Constitution very explicitly gives the government the power to tax, but somehow their brains are not usually able to absorb the concept.

müse posted:I am surprised he thinks the Mass Pike is expensive but whatever. Things I don't understand about conservative "thought" #135: I never understand their problem with toll roads. In theory, those who use them pay for them, and those who don't use them don't have to pay for them. So this tickles their "no taxes" spot. A successfully-planned and placed toll road would therefore make money, while an unnecessary one would fail, which ought to tickle their "free market" hardons. Shouldn't a free-market conservative not only be in favor of toll roads, but be in favor of making MORE roads operate this way? Or is it just that they're such giant babies that they can't even figure that simple thing out? That's a rhetorical question, of course.

She is thankful that her company fires the old and sick because it keeps her health insurance down and she doesn't want to pay for other people's healthcare. I tried to think of ways to address that mindframe, but I came up with nothing. Any ideas? Tell her that she's an absolute moron for not realizing that when she is paying for insurance she is still paying for other people's healthcare because the dumb bitch is too stupid to comprehend that that is the very purpose of insurance. Goddamn, I hate it when people say things that stupid.

(And of course, if they think we are weak, they give no thought to their own role in making us so.)

I assume by this point you've all heard about this guy who got a crazy forwarded political email from his family!
