Sometimes color suits an image better than black and white, I find.

I like this, you are right - colour sometimes does make a street photo really work. However I wonder if this is because the pigeons and woman are so in your face and the building in the background is so pretty that nothing else is a distraction.

This is my only attempt at street photography and I think it was more luck than anything:

I played around with levels and contrast for ages before finally settling on using a very high contrast black and white.

I want to do more street photography but find it difficult to get the camera out and start pointing it at people. After watching the video of Gilden I don't know how he gets away with it without being punched.

I have just watched part one of that documentary and I feel like I haven't learnt anything about street photography but do feel like I have sat through a 15 minute presentation by a Leica salesman.

Part 2 hasn't started off any better...

This is interesting. It feels like part of a story. What is this man doing there? Does he do this every day? Why is he watching so intently?

I would have liked to see a wider angle - there are people around him - are they watching? If so are they appalled? interested? What is their reaction?

Fantastic shot - this is, to me, a good example of street photography.

On one of the wettest Saturdays of the year so far, I ventured forth onto the Gloucester Road in Bristol, UK to try out my new camera. Often at ISO 800 due to the cloud cover and general darkness I ended up getting some shorts that I was happy with (and quite a few I wasn't!). This was also my first go at zone focusing.

This one I wasn't so happy with, didn't quite get my focus right.

Also, what are people using to post their photos from flickr with the standardised Title, username and ", on flickr" bit?

Ah slick, I work just across from the Mshed it's pretty.

Did the homeless guy you took a picture of on Gloucester Road try and grab your camera or anything? I've seen him do that before to people just walking past, let alone one pointing at him.

I was walking past holding my camera and he asked me to take his photo. No camera grabbing or anything.

More photos from Bristol. This time I was trying to get a bit closer to my subjects while doing candid / not asking first shots.

This lady was in the process of getting her ear pierced right there on the street!

I love this one, even with the slightly random foot in the top right corner. It implies movement without any real motion blur.

Interesting shot, if it were mine I would have been happier if the guy in the foreground was in focus.

Some shots from Bristol city centre this afternoon.

I like the idea here, especially as they aren't colours that I would naturally find all that often (maybe where you are they occur more frequently). But have you pushed the saturation a little too much? The faces are starting to look a little unnatural.

This week I stood on a single spot and took photos of people walking along. It worked in the most part but I only got one shot (above) that I am even semi happy with. Maybe I picked the wrong location or the fact it was a Sunday meant that there were not as many people walking along.

I wasn't overly comfortable about shooting in Paris - I got the distinct impression that people didn't want to have their photo taken (more so than usual). After a bit of googling I found out that it is very much not the done thing to take photos of people in France without permission. As an example I was allowed to take a photo of the Mona Lisa (everyone was - what a way to ruin an art gallery), but not of the people taking photos of the Mona Lisa

Where did you get this idea from? I've taken 100s of photos of people in Paris (and of the people looking at the Mona Lisa) and only once had a lady say she didn't want to have her photo taken. You may have heard of a guy called Henri Cartier-Bresson who took a lot of photos of people in Paris...

I got this idea from my own experience over the weekend where a smile after pressing the shutter was not placating people as much as it would in other cities I have visited. That plus the security in the Louvre who told me that I couldn't take photos of people (but could take photos of the art). I then googled and came up with a range of reports about how some French law has made it all a bit more complicated. This is just one of the articles I came across:
