I love the end of the video where he fumbles the camera and, instead of editing that part out, it's simply bleeped out and the fun continues

psylent posted:That guy is terrible How relevant this guy's story is. I just started going through last year's photos (I started shooting in May 2009) and began the process of deleting what I would now categorize as particularly bland, uninteresting photos. I'd like to be able to also delete some of these from my Flickr stream, too, but that process would be daunting due to the awkwardness of doing it from the web interface. I deleted 450 photos last night and got about 1/3 of the way through my collection of 4,000 I have stored locally. I came across quite a few that today I'd keep as well, so that was encouraging. The saying, "The difference between pros and amateurs is the number of photos one deletes", is poignant.

Helmacron posted:The front wheel changes aperture, the back wheel changes shutter, if it's in manual mode. If it's in Shutter priority, only the back wheel changes things. If it's in aperture priority, the front wheel does stuff. If it's in P, then neither of the wheels do anything. That's funny - almost completely different from Canon (except for aperture priority enabling the front wheel). In AE on my Canon, at leaset, the back wheel allows you to adjust the exposure +/- 2 stops. How does the Nikon let you do this?

Yeah, I've been carrying my 85 f/1.8 around more often lately because of just this. It's funny how you can begin to spot certain lenses or perhaps just focal lengths & apertures. The 85 seems have have its own signature.

RangerScum posted:Yes there is a big difference between lovely tone-mapped images and some of your landscapes. I guess it puzzles me why nobody wants to call it the right thing and then get downright hostile about it when it's brought up. Well, I for one appreciate you explaining the difference, as I was equating HDR with lovely tonemapping and not really thinking twice about it. Will I start saying "lovely tonemapping" instead of "HDR"? Maybe, but HDR is already villainous enough such that it might be impossible to save it from its misunderstood fate. Also, people are coming off as hostile b/c you were rather in your explanation.

Getting a 5D2 has made me a better photographer. Not because I'm taking better pictures, but rather because I don't have enough disc space on my laptop to keep every 21mp photo that manages to make its way into lightroom.
