After the vet trip on friday, kitty seemed fine, we were just waiting on the bloodwork to see what to do next. Then she got extremely lethargic and I had to admit her to the 24 hr hospital last night. She's thankfully perked up after the iv fluids, But they did x-rays and ultrasound and things are not too happy right now, could be lymphoma.

Here's her a week ago, showing off her own personal grow op:

Meet Velcro. Those Esteban pics were reminding me of him. He took just fine to a harness, liked riding in the car, I could take him basically everywhere.

So we'd take him camping and he'd sleep in the tent with us. There was one walk-in campground we couldn't take him into for some reason so we had to leave him in the back of the truck for one night against my better judgement.
We got back to the truck first thing in the morning, and found that loving raccoons had got into the truck. They had slid open one of the canopy windows, got inside, and tore into the cat food, and Velcro was gone

We ran around the parking lot frantically, asking everyone we saw if they'd seen a little black cat. After about 5 minutes, we heard a meow and he came trotting up. He looked like he'd been hiding in a tree for hours.

Elena update. She's the one recently diagnosed with lymphoma, she's really bright and alert lately, we've started her on chemo and several other meds, so I hope she gains some weight back soon.

Don't laugh about her shaved fur from the IV, she's sensitive :catstare:

She's scratched a person intentionally probably once in her whole life.

Took Ici to the emergency vet Wednesday night. Wasn't sure if she was going to make it, but this morning the vet told me that she was responding to the new antibiotic they put her on yesterday.

She's not out of the woods yet but it looks like she's over the scariest hump. :unsmith:

Please pray for Ici and my credit card debt.

Get well soon Ici.

I haven't updated in a while about Elena. She's got GI lymphoma, and it was really scary for a while when she spent about 4 days straight vomiting all the time. We were taking her to the vet every day for fluids and injections that would supposedly stop the vomiting but didn't do jack poo poo, they were just like "well, that's gonna happen..."

I hate them so much.

We took her back to the hospital and they put a stop to it right away, and gave us the good meds for nausea (Ondansetron)

BTW, if you are in the Seattle area, and need an emergency vet, GO HERE:

http://www.vcaspecialtyvets.com/veterinary-specialty-center-seattle

They are so much better than Emerald City it's not even funny. Actually faster to get to for me anyway, since they're literally right on the freeway exit.

So she's been doing great lately, very happy and even gaining a little bit of weight back.

ondansetron is the poo poo for stopping nausea but god is it expensive, i got a prescription for a month supply after a night in the ER and the price made me want to die at $10 per 8mg tablet. i hope it's not killing you too much--and of course i hope nothings killing elena at all :) she looks like a very good catte*

* all cattes are good cattes

It wasn't too much actually. Under $30 I believe for a couple weeks worth, did you get non-generic?
I actually got some myself last year when I caught the flu and puked my guts out for several hours. With insurance it only cost me $0.87 for a box of 30 4mg tablets. They're still good so we're using them for Elena now (checked with the Doctor first).

And she IS a good catte. Like, you wouldn't BELIEVE how special she is. She'll just sit and gaze into your eyes with so much love and it gets me choked up just thinking about it and I got the diabeetus now.

We went camping for a couple days last weekend and one of the vet techs at VCA has a pet sitting business, which worked out perfectly. She told us later that when she went in to work she was all "guess who I get to go home to tonight? :iamafag:" and all the other techs were so jealous.

Took Elena for a recheck ultrasound, and the stomach/intestines are NORMAL! Her liver values are down! The meds are working! :woop:

Being an indoor cat with no teeth she's only ever walked around outside a few times. She doesn't ever try to escape or anything. The weather was really nice we had to let her out:

Some not-so-good news, Elena's developed mild diabetes from some of the cancer medication. Luckily it's reversible, lowering the dosage and special food will hopefully make it better. In the meantime, I've gotta give her insulin twice a day. NOT FUN :(
She's still doing very well overall though!

Here she is enjoying some homegrown nippe:

Aww, Elena and Ici are like medical issue buddies.

I'm terrible at injections, how do you do it?

Getting demos at the vet's office she doesn't even notice and it's super easy but when I try at home she's jumpy and I can tell she really feels it.

didn't the vet teach you how to make a "tent?" you pull up the skin (i do it between Ici's shoulder blades) with three fingers. now that the skin is pulled away from cat's body, you use the other hand to inject the insulin between her skin and body. the needles I use are regular people needles with a super-fine tip, way easier than when I was giving her fluids.

if she's jumpy, she's probably reacting to you being jumpy. you need to be super calm and in control; the more matter of fact you are, the easier the transaction will be.

when you got the demos at the vet, were you the one giving her the shot or were they showing you how to do it? next time you go in, you should do it yourself with them giving you pointers.

Yeah, that's how I'm doing it. I did it just fine at the vet, also did fine when getting demos for B12 injections and fluids. I'm sure it is primarily my nerves. I've only been able to give fluids successfully at home once, that needle is so drat big :(
It doesn't help that she's so tiny and delicate.
