Gorkamorka mob. Sorry for lovely lighting and un-finished bases Man, orks are so fun to paint! All those "harsh" details like the muscle fibres and the tusks are really easy to paint and not have them look like poo poo.

Paintingoons, I need your help! I know the lighting isn't optimal, but I need some input. I'm not happy about the skin (most rest of the model isn't finished either) and I can't really put my finger on it. Maybe the contrast on the highlight is to harsh? Could I fix it with a watered down purple wash? I'm not used to spending that much time on skin, I usually just do a coat or two followed by a wash, but that didn't give me the result I wanted. gently caress, I wish I had some empty pots, having to mix all the layers as I go takes loving forever! edit: not sure about the green either, but I had to stear clea of light and dark browns so the the entire model (+ base) is the same color Not a viking fucked around with this message at 20:52 on Jun 13, 2010 |

A little cross-postin here. Sorry about that, but I just remembered there is an actual painting thread I need some feedback on stormvermin color scheme. Old school dark red armor with black fur or white fur with green robes and bronze/gold armor? Please ignore the rough brush strokes, I was just slathering on some paint on the front of the mini to get a feel of the scheme. I also got some input to do the armor like the left one, but paint the cloth red, but I haven't tried it in practice yet. Gonna do it right now and post a pic of that as well. After ordering some confrontation wulfen to use as treekin I realized the models are pre-painted Does anyone here have experience with stripping rackham minis? Can I do it just the same way I strip GW minis or are they made of some sort of wax-plastic that will melt if I so much as put it under hot water?

I'm in the process of building a plague claw catapult and would like some feedback. Its based on a Couldron of 1000 poxes which is based on the old 5th ed screaming bell carriage and a DE couldron of blood. Made the arm from bits of 40k vehicles before I got my hands on the balsa wood With the couldron from the new screaming bell The old couldron. It looks bigger and more bad rear end, but it weighs a ton compared to the plastic and the balsa wood, so it probably won't hold very long. I might stick this on my screaming bell instead. I'm going to add more screws and metal plates and such on the balsa wood, kind of like on the new screaming bell carriage. Need to find a good way to make nails/rivets as well. I haven't found a suitable counter-weight yet and the release mechanism is going to be maybe chains or thread if I can get some to look like rope instead of thread. Any ideas or comments? This is my first time using balsa wood and plastic card, so even basic advice would be welcomed.

Agreeing with PV, painting miniatures is a skill that you get after hours of practice, just like kicking a football or skiing. The more you do it, the more your muscles will be used to working like that and you'll have more control over it. Don't spend 10 hours on one model and try to make it perfect. Instead, spend 100 hours on 100 models and even then you've just started to get the basic hang of it. Also, don't paint while hungry.
