This might/might not apply to you, but my accident occurred on the first time I was riding with a friend of mine while I was still quite inexperienced. After that I realised I should have continued riding by myself until I was completely comfortable with it and knew what I could and couldn't do (aka get away with) while riding. Personally I think I would have been more careful without my friend riding behind me and would have learned more by myself at first had I continued riding alone instead of saying 'wow, a sunny day in Scotland let's take advantage of it and ride together' and punting my bike into a wall at 60...
