See the water pump in the back? The previous owner of my 4Runner was too cheap to buy antifreeze so he just used tap water. The blades of the impeller eventually corroded to the point they they left the pump.

Worked out for me, I bought the truck for $1k.

I cant recall ever seeing a cast O Ring gland, is that groove just a locating/holding feature for the gasket? The dimensions of the casting seem pretty risky, impressive.

That just keeps the gasket in place/centered.

My Audi waterpumps also have a casting groove for the o-ring to seal.

That is quite a laugh...

I've been to a ton of dealerships/service centers/repair shops...whatever...

And I'll leave out the Indie type mechanics that specializes, has the concrete block walls, a computer system from Soviet Russia generating invoices on tri-carboned paper from a dot matrix printer yet has a few million worth of cars in the bays.

It is either a marbled palace or a shithole at big dealerships. There is no in-between. You are either experiencing marble with a Keurig or smelling gas/oil/Napa type store smells.

Moderator at http://www.ridgelineownersclub.com/forums/and soon to be mod of AI. MAKE AI GREAT AGAIN. Motronic for VP.
I had a customer with a VW TDI have that happen, or close. Her son went over a railroad track at Mach Jesus (it wasn't even lowered, he was just going that fast) and pegged the entire oil pan. It had like a 5 inch crack in it.

I warned her going in that I knew those motors were high strung about oil pressure and it might not be a runner. She said it has an oil level sensor and shut off automatically so should be no damage.

I ordered the pan for the car with the oil level sensor in the bottom.

It arrives and... There's no oil level sensor in the original pan. So I had to make a block off plate on the spot because I found out it didn't come with one (most do).

Pan didn't appear to have any glitter in it so on the new one went. Filled it up with new oil and started it.

The loving brand new pan has casting inclusions in two places resulting in it bleeding oil from hairline fissures. Never buy ultra power on rockauto, they're trash.

She wants me to put a new pan on it again, I warranty that one and put a new one on again at a much reduced rate because I feel terrible about this already.

I find loving glitter in the pan I just put on, taking it back off to do the warranty pan. Not a little either, a lot. Big glitter. It must have been hiding on top of the windage tray or something. It didn't shut off automatically from a sensor warning it, it stopped turning by itself though I guess.

We both got hosed hard on that deal, and it wasn't even the fun kind. I still regret not being more forceful in my warnings about the motor probably being shot.

I was working on a job out in the middle of nowhere where a bunch of people go camping. A couple parts of the road were washed out so the company put rig mats down to get trucks in and out. Campers still came in in cars and stuff on the weekend, and a VW jetta took out the oil pan on the edge of one of the rig mats. They parked in the middle of the road when the lights started flashing and ended up being pushed into the ditch with one of the company trucks.

Most engines will shut off automatically shortly after dumping their oil pan, level sensor or not.

That's impressive. What are the chunks at the second set of tracks?

Closest I've come was to catch the drain plug just right on a gutter going into a driveway on the oilpan in my Cutlass and crack the weld, when I had too low, too soft front springs on it.
Normally, the massive front crossmember prevents that, but I got it at just the right angle, apparently. Came back out to see a line of oil coming downhill from my car. Topped up the oil and drove the mile back home right quick. Ended up disassembling the entire front end of the car to clean and paint, since I had to take the engine out to get the new pan on. Might as well, when you're in there, eh?

There are people who intentionally install longer oil filters that hang below the frame for “more capacity”, and it’s like, buddy, not worth it.

After all the recent breakdown footage, I took a look at RockAuto yesterday for what was available in the way of Tesla 3 parts...and was fairly impressed with the selection. A crap ton of it was Dorman but there was quite a selection of suspension, door handles, etc.
