Oops

More of a procedural failure than a mechanical failure. Maintenance needed to be performed on the crane's crawler tracks so the counterweights were removed and then the boom was lowered. When the boom got to 55 degrees the centre-of-mass shifted forward and the whole thing tipped over. Luckily no one was hurt as an exclusion zone had been setup around the crane. Apparently there was no procedure for doing said maintenance work however I'd assume that if there was one it would say to remove the counterweights after lowering the boom :)

The hot coppery smell of stop-leak mixed with sickly sweet hot coolant smell in the middle of summer in San Antonio. Wondering why when I press the gas, the car is so sluggish. I look at the cluster to see the temp gauge pegged so hard to H it's off the scale. The previous owner replaced a heater core hose with garden hose and pumped the fucker full of stop-leak. The pool of nasty rusty/coppery water pooling on top of the transmission in the Texas heat sure was a thing to see. I'm so paranoid about cooling systems from that experience. That 89 camry kept on truckin for another two years with a warped head before it finally blew the headgasket and started running on 3 cylinders. Had it machined and reinstalled and that thing is still kicking around somewhere in Florida. Old toyota best toyota.

Cross-post, might not be a mechanical failure but close to one:

Vehicle owner wasn't present. Insurance fraud, mechanical failure in combo with panic, stolen truck, or something else?

When I was in high-school back in 04 we did that with a car we bought from the Quokka for $150. We were trying to take it out bush for some hooning but the engine exploded so we pushed it into a ditch and set off some nang -bombs inside. Then we went to the foreshore to get drunk on cask wine.

Yeah if you're stupid and can't work poo poo out from context:
  • hooning: burnouts and driving fast in a car
  • Quokka: Craigslist but it's a paper you buy for $2
  • Nang-bombs: those nitrous-oxide canisters you get high on, take one and pack sparkler scrapings around it in a shell with tin-foil, then put a sparkler in the top as a fuse. light it, nos canister detonates like 2-3 seconds later

I've heard of Quokka, and that's roughly how I understood it (I'm not sure I knew it was a paper rather than a website ... maybe it's a website now, but was a paper then?).

I've heard some wild stories about their website. Apparently it was developed by the Australian version of Radium and is just completely cooked.

I googled the quokka and its cute af. Would buy a car from one any time

They're adorable. Here in WA the Quokka's have a whole island (Rottnest) all to themselves however it's lousy with tourists. Also we keep having to throw shitheads in prison for abusing them ("Quokka Soccer" was in the papers for a while a few years ago).
