I'm certainly mot calling bullshit, or disputing this in any way, but that piston seems to be quite small given the length of the crankshafts in locomotive engines.

About 5 years ago, I was doing a job at a place in Winnipeg this place to be preciseand they were remanning locomotive crankshafts. Which were 2 pieces each piece longer than my arm span which is about 5 1/2 feet. So, the whole thing put together is 10+ feet long.
So, my point being. It looks like an awfully small piston, given the length and over all massive size of the crank shafts that I saw at that place.

Was that a "small" locomotive that happened to?

Pistons in commercial diesels aren't usually that big compared to the engine. Most of the grunt comes from the stroke. GE evolution specs list the bore as a tad under 10" with stroke bring over 1'. Everything else is huge to deal with the massive amount of torque.

I don't know about that car specifically, but most models with an engine that has awd/rwd drivetrain option will use the same motor placement for easier logistics, and the front diff usually requires the engine being a bit further up. I was going from the hood hole that the clutch was infront of the bulkhead but who knows!

I'm not at all familiar with SCUBA diving. What does a higher than expected percent of oxygen in the air supply do at those depths? Is it essentially O2 at a higher pressure and it forces its way into your blood and tissues?

Your body is used to oxygen at .21bar partial pressure (1atm x.21 (21% of air volume)). When you go to higher pressures the partial pressure of oxygen increases and from what I remember, your body can't respirate it effectively and it begins to interrupt metabolic and other body processes due to hyperoxia. Once you hit a certain threshold it begins to cause neurological, pulmonary, and occular problems with 1.4bar being generally the safe limit for O2 partial pressure at extended times. The deeper you go the lower % oxygen is in the air blend to keep te partial pressure to safe levels. These effects happens at sea level/space as well but it's less severe since the partial pressure is so low so you can get away with 100% oxygen enviornments for a pretty long time.

If he was at 1000 feet essentially he went from whatever they were using to 15bar partial pressure which is way beyond fatal. Even 50% at 30m can gently caress you day up.

You're right, going 5 under the limit is much worse than going 25 over the limit and acting like an entitled asshat when someone doesn't immediately pull over on the shoulder to let you pass.

It is actually, in the US most places specify that vehicles in the left lane always yield to faster traffic regardless of the actual speed limits (of course, moving right when it's safe to do so). I've seen police throw on the sirens to clear someone doing 80mph in the left lane so they could go 100. If someone can pass you on the right you shouldn't be in the left lane.

Also, most places in the US also specify that you're supposed to obey posted speed limits. If I'm active passing someone/a line of slower moving traffic in the left lane I'm not going to get over until I'm done passing because someone else thinks that 95 is an acceptable cruising speed and they own the road.

Left lane is yield regardless of speed limits. Anyways, you're doing it right since you're actually passing and moving over when there is room. Someone who isn't passing in the left is in the wrong though, if someones driving like a douche let them go and let the cops deal with it.

And I half-agreed with Geoj. I'm going to go stab myself now.

When my '90 Legacy Wagon got rear-ended at like 40-45ish a few years ago by a Town&Country, despite being totalled the car still drove 30 minutes home under it's own power with the only major problem being the lack of a rear hatch window.

The impact structure of the Corolla is almost entirely intact, the reason it looks so bad is the truck rode up and used the trunk and firewall as an impact zone. That's also why the truck didn't deploy airbags and looks like it was in a 5mph.
